This house in quite unique. What is interesting, is that even though it was the home of a wealthy merchant, it was work to get about the house for residents and servants alike. Stairs are numerous and narrow to the many rooms and floors. The...More

Like a set from Game of Thrones, very "Winter is Coming" The medieval furniture is beautiful, the building itself is stunning and the gardens are worth the entrance fee alone. Was last here about 10 years ago and it has really up'd its game. You...More

It is a very impressive building, and very well preserved (on private intiative, I believe...). The displays in parts of the building are quite outdated, but that is well compensated by the wonderful garden at the back. What a delight! So happy that it was...More

The Rothe House is a 16th century merchant's home. It has been nicely conserved/ restored. There are a few period pieces. It is self guided with a small booklet but the exhibits are marked with placards. There is a large reception room with artifacts from...More

Below the radar tourist attraction. A municipal museum and garden. You can wander around on your own. Very low key and relaxing. The Elizabethan garden was especially interesting because of the heirloom plants and passionate gardeners who let you sample the fruit and were very...More

Having been on lots of self guided and guided tours of properties in the UK and US, this rates as one of the best. Interesting, unusual, well documented and sign posted. It is conserved more than renovated and not a restoration. Seemed " real," though...More

Rothe House is an interesting house to tour. You walk around on your own and it is the best preserved medieval house in the town, maybe the whole country.

This House has a very interesting history behind it. The building is holding out really well to the test of time and the artifacts in it are well care for. What I would say is that there is no tour guide and that took away...More

This was our last stop in Kilkenny. Perhaps we were a little weary of history. It was a self-guided tour; I think a tour guide would have helped us appreciate it more. There were a few attached houses and extensive gardens in back. The gardens...More

Allow 1-2 hours, that should be sufficient, but if you are on a whirlwind tour like a lot of Americans who come here, see the castle first, enjoy the touristy shopping mall opposite the castle, the high street and the... More
