If you are visiting castles, particularly on SE region, my recommendation is follow the order we did - Rocks of Cashel, Cahir, Ormonde Castle and then Kilkenny. That way you'll get full perspective and story without holes on Butler family and historical facts. Guided tours...More

Expectations were not high as we've been saturated with castles over the years but Kilkenny Castle was definitely worth the visit. We walked the grounds then self-guided through the castle, and found that completely sufficient without being bound by a tour schedule and interests. The...More

Really enjoyed trip to Kilkenny Castle. Unfortunately the signs round Castle could be better especially heading out of second floor up to bedrooms. Did mention this to several staff members and they agreed .

This is certainly worth checking out. They have done a great job rehabilitating this beautiful castle and grounds.

You must see this castle if you visit Ireland not alone Kilkenny. It is very reasonable to visit at 8 euros for each adult. There are things to see in this castle that cannot be seen anywhere else in the world

Came back to this castle after 15 years since the first visit. Fascinating historical place which always impresses.

This is a lovely place and I found the most interesting parts were the original rooms and access to the original walls and foundations. The rest of the castle was renovated in the 19th century and these areas are similar to many mansions from that...More

I vacationed in Ireland for 10 days and drove the whole country and this was a great experience and worth going a bit out of my way for. The castle is beautiful inside and out, the price for the self guided tour was reasonable and...More

This was our first sightseeing stop upon landing in Ireland. It was a great introduction to Ireland, particularly the video covering the history of the castle. Not to be missed in Kilkenny! We particularly enjoyed the tea room!

Enjoyed a walk around the castle in the sunshine on Wednesday. The medieval room gives a great digital presentation and is very informative. It’s so lovely to have the castle in such good condition. One of Ireland’s gems.

I completely agree with taking the train. It was a ninety minute ride from Dublin Hurston to Kilkenny with beautiful scenery along the way. Very easy to walk from station to castle. Don’t miss the Black Abbey, St. Candice... More
