Exceptionally generous, self-guided access to many beautifully rooms and halls - the restoration attention to detail is remarkable (wallpapers, glorified curtain rods [I forget the correct name], etc. and a nice snack tent between the castle and fountain. The artifacts are well worth the reasonable admission price. Go before the buses arrive at and after lunchtime. Great story plaques accompany... More

Nice grounds filled with locals using the green fields for sports and picnics etc. Easily accessed from the town centre, you really can't miss it.

This is a beautifully maintained building - very elegant with beautiful grounds. Staff were amazing - so full of knowledge about rooms, furniture, tapestries, history. It's stunning with great views of gardens and river as you walk through. Tours are available but with guides in so many rooms you can just head off with the map which you get at... More

We have been visiting Kilkenny for many years and the Castle is the standout feature of the city. Wheteher its just to stroll in the grounds or take the inside tour it is just stunning. A jewel in the Kilkenny crown.

The entry fee of 8 Euro pp was well worth it. Owen the tour guide really brought the. Place to life. Parts of the castle are medieval and it is very well restored. The story of the Butler family is told here and their gift of the place to the board of works in Kilkenny at a token price of... More

I did not get to view the interior of the castle. However, from the outside we had a good tour guide who gave us all of the particulars of this castle. I will say it's very different than the other castles I've been to since it doesn't not create an enclosed courtyard. However, the scenery from the castle is beautiful!... More

Kilkenny castle is worth seeing if you are already in town. It is walking distance from anywhere in Kilkenny. The castle itself is average (as far as European castles go), but the grounds are expansive and enjoyable to walk around.

My first visit to the Castle. What a joy. It was heaven as I'm a history graduate/buff. The staff were friendly and very informative. The rooms on display were so amazing- like we were walking back in time and could see it all happen before our eyes. The price was very reasonable - 8 euro each. I would recommend this... More

Having been to the long-neglected Kilkenny Castle in 1978, I was delighted to see that it has been so beautifully restored. It is well worth the visit... as is the bakery within! The cakes and coffee were scrumptious.
