We combined visiting the ruins of Kells Priory with a visit to Jerpoint Abbey and the monastic site in Kilree. Kells Priory is an impressivly large site. We were joking around that the monks might have used the big open space within the walls for games of hurling. It was great fun exploring the site with its church, remains of... More

This was our second time to this ancient area and is beautiful. Our problem this time was that there was moist ground and was slick as could be on the hills leading to the Priory. We had to abandon our visit due to a couple of falls with our daughter and the discouragement of it. Wear good hiking boot and... More

We didn't intend to visit the Kells Priory. Our sat nav was supposed to take us from the Rock of Cashel to the Jerpoint Abbey and instead of taking some major roads we went on some very tiny ones and found this amazing priory. We walked towards it through some fields, it was a pretty rare find. It was founded... More

Not far from Kilkenny. Amazing fortified Priory with most of the walls intact. Huge place and very impressive. Good car park and a nice walk at the back of the priory along the river. Well worth a visit.

Great history to this place. Went to the graveyard there and found a stone dated 1739. Amazing beautiful grounds. Great walk over the King's River to the Mill in Kells. Beautiful scenery. It makes a loop back to the Priory. My favorite place in Ireland.

If you're in the Kilkenny area, be sure to stop here!!! It's kind of confusing to get here though...but the lady at Jerpoint Abbey gave us a map and we found it okay. It's free to go to, but I would def have paid! So around the ruins, sheep roam. And there is nothing more Irish landscapy than sheep +... More

This was one of our favourite places in our one month tour of Ireland for our family of four (with one teen and one early twenties). Kell's Priory is a large monastic site ( more than 3 acres), with lots of atmosphere. We were lucky and were able to climb the round tower with a very helpful and knowledgeable OPW... More

This time of year we had the paddock that these ruins sit on to ourselves. Great peaceful acreage but watch for the sheep poop. This is a free attraction and parking was no problem or fees. Walk through the arch and around the site. There is also a small cemetery along side worth a look. September is off season, so... More

We visited on a wet Sunday and were one of only two couples there. Basically the site is the ruins of an ancient priory and remarkably intact in many places. It's in the middle if a paddock so a walk through the grass and sheep droppings is required. It's free, though. Enter through the kissing arch. There's also and old... More
