- lpmcguireDetroit, Michigan39 contributionsGreat hikeWe started down by the Torc waterfall and the hiked up to the Torc Mtn parking lot. You start off walking along the stream that forms Torc waterfall through a temperate rainforest area. Moss cover everything. It is quite beautiful. We were pleasantly surprised as the woods breaks to great rolling fields of grass where you can see for miles. The trail zig Zags up the mtn at an easy pace. I am not fond of heights, but this had no scary precipices. It can get windy towards the top, though we went up between to north sea storms. You will have great views of the water, Killarney and other mountains. Highly recommended. The steepest climb is the climb from the waterfall up to the mountain trail. If you can do that, you can do the restVisited February 2020Travelled with familyWritten 22 February 2020
- ScotlandmacGlasgow, United Kingdom13,314 contributionsVery easy angled walk, around 1 hour to top for fine viewsThis path up this small mountain has been so well built, that all the boggy bits have duckboarding and secure wooden planks to keep your feet dry. The parking was very busy in May mid morning, so we were lucky to get one of the few remaining spaces on a sunny warm Saturday. We made the mistake of initially going to the Torc Waterfall parking but this would have added to the ascent. A quick turn around and then a drive up the Old Kenmare road (not the Ring of Kerry road itself), took us to the correct starting point. We do quite a bit of hillwalking but are no spring chickens age wise, so it took us about an hour to the top. Great views to the Reeks over the lakes and down to Lough Leane and Muckross Estate.A perfect short holiday hike to get a sense of the mountain area without spending hours doing something harder. The local people we stayed with called this hill 'Cardiac Mountain' but we found it beautifully angled for a very pleasant ascent with empty moorland views all around.Visited August 2020Written 12 May 2021
- RndckDublin, Ireland3 contributionsGreat hikeIf you just want to hike up the mountain, park in the upper carpark off the old Kenmore Road. If you want to take in the waterfall then there is a smaller carpark down lower but can be hard to find a spot in busy season. Even if you park in the upper one you can still walk down to the waterfall before or after the mountain trek. It's a bit of a hill but very doable as alot of it is steps. If you're planning on going to the top of the mountain then this shouldn't be a problem! Could do with a bit more signage especially from upper car park. Start on yellow kerry way & when you reach a clearing wuth views for ever then turn off to the right where there's a sign to top of mountain. Hike was lovely as weather was perfect (a sunny warm Nov morning) & view at top was worth it. Took me an hour to go up from upper carpark & 1.5hrs down taking in the waterfall by blue route & back to carpark.Visited November 2022Travelled soloWritten 20 November 2022

One would need boots for safety and warm clothes to be prepared for the Irish weather. We had hailstones and sunshine as we climbed. Beautiful views well maintained by volunteers.

We parked in the upper car park. Did the red loop first and then the summit walk (probably too much tbh) the views were worth it though

this is an amazing 2hr round trip hike to do. Perhaps the best accessible 360 degree view in the whole of Ireland at the top. Breathtaking

My wife and I walked to top of Torc last week. Fabulous experience. Never thought we would do this as we are reasonably active but not real hikers. The path to top is well laid out with the sleepers and well placed stones. Well done to all who created this pathway. Recommend to all.

Approximately how much time should we allow for a hike at Torc Mountain?

Depends on personal hiking condition. We made it in 70 minutes to the top. But we were of good speed. I would say up to 100 minutes is ok.

Hi I would recommend a pair of good comfy shoes, keep your stuff in backpack , hiking sticks are useful. If you have baby don't drag the buggy.Baby carer highly recommended. Cause you'll go up and up. And then back down. Water, camera and snacks! Have fun
