This trip is unlike any other we have had in Ireland so far. We boarded a small boat with one other couple that took us to Innisfallen. The boat we took was "The Otter"- our guide was amazing and his small Pomeranian/chihuahua accompanied us to the island. It was literally just us and one other couple on the island for... More

We went on a rainy cold day and we had the whole island to ourselves, except for the tiny Red Deer that only live on the island. The ruins of the Abbey date back to the 6th Century. The Roman Abbey dates to the 11th Century. The cross is stunning.

For only 10 euros (return) a motorboat will take you from the back of Ross Castle to the site of a Medieval monastic settlement. The structures are Romanesque and home to a colony of deer that are not at all intimidated by humans. You can wander closely to them. The whole trip takes an hour including the boat trip and... At Ross Castle hire Charlie and his adorable dog Bella to take you to Innisfallen Island by motor boat. The small boats drop you on the island. Explore the ruins of the monastery that was established around the year 600 and experience why the monks chose this location. It is an amazingly peaceful experience.

The monks of Inisfallen ultimately left the Island and founded the Abbey at Muckross, then finally settled in Killarney town. Brother MaCudda is famous in local legends for having walked across the lake, and leaving the imprint of his knees on the stone where he knelt praying for two hundred years, before finally returning to the island, and finding all... A nice little monastic ruin. Not as well preserved or extensive as others, but a cheap boat ride with pretty views makes it worthwhile to visit. Apparently Brian Boru was educated here.

Came close to this lovely island as part of a boat trip on the killarney lakes. The ruins of a 12th century priory can clearly be seen and visits to land on the island can I believe, be made .

Great boat ride across the lake to get to inisfallen Island , such a mystical and magical feel to it as well as beautiful scenery. You are left to walk around at your leisure to explore the ruined abbey on the Island and to walk around the undergrowth to see the wild flowers and the deer that swim across from... More

Went with Mor Active tours and kayaked out to this island...it is fantastic. The ruins are very nice and being able to watch the deer move about it incredible. We even watched a mother and fawn swim out to the island. A very enjoyable way to spend a few hours.
