Essential part of our Killarny visit
We very much enjoyed our visit to this estate in Killarny and found the staff extremely warm and helpful. Parking and other amenities easy. Would love to return and consider it an essential stop in this area. We also enjoyed the farm and conversations with staff. We were there late in the day and it was uncrowded and very relaxed. Torc waterfall is nearby and is another quick excursion that can be added...as well as the abbey. The latter two features can be done nicely on a summer evening if you are making a very full day of it.

Well worth the trip. We spent a full day exploring the park and visiting the sites
We did the traditional farm and so enjoyed it. We had been to Bunratty and the Ulster American Folk Park and we liked this site the best. It was very well maintained and the animals were happy and well cared for. The ladies in the houses were making bread and butter and were ready to answer all our questions. It is a 2 km walk but they do have a shuttle bus if you need it. The school house was a highlight because of the staff !!

    Seriously unmissable
We thought we would have a quick visit here….how wrong could we be? 5 hours plus later we finally agreed we had seen enough…and that was without a visit to the craft centre. Muckross House was an interesting self guided visit, but with helpful and knowledgeable staff (thank you especially to Patsy). The views down to the lake and gardens were stunning, and walking round the gardens was a delight. None of our wedding presents were even remotely comparable to the gift of Muckross - a toaster doesn’t quite cut the mustard! If we thought that was good, we then headed towards the traditional farm. A long, but enjoyable walk round all of the farm buildings. Staff again very welcoming and informative, and enabled visitors to have some idea of what life would have been like in the 30s … we quickly discovered that the answer was “tough”. Our visit in June was well timed, as there were a number of young animals, which clearly delighted younger visitors. The blacksmith was so very interesting, and chatted non-stop explaining exactly what he was doing and responding happily to any questions.

Muckross is a must do in Ireland
We did a self-tour of Muckross House. The House has a wonderful history and is beautifully furnished. Staff are positioned throughout the house to answer questions and give more information. We took our time wandering through all of the rooms. There is a lot to explore inside the house and outside in the beautiful gardens by the lake. If you are hungry or just need a snack, don't miss the Garden Restaurant. The food is served cafeteria style and is very good! My husband thought the bangers and mash one of the best meals he had in Ireland. He could not decide on sides because they all looked good, so the server just gave him a spoon of each one! Plenty of tables and they were cleared and cleaned quickly for the next guests.

House tour and wool items bought and loving them
House was a bit humid but whatcha gonna do about the weather. The shops are nice, local and the education and information is plentiful. Also the views and just the grounds are phenomenal. Stop and read all the stories and pamphlets you can.

Farm was great, house was good
The self-guided tour of the house was nice; we saw many beautiful rooms, but it was not particular outstanding vs. other mansions that we have seen before. The traditional farm was very good. The only negative is that it took a LOT more walking than expected to get to the first site and between sites. But the people in the buildings were very entertaining overall--especially the "teacher" in the school house who provide a fun lesson in Gaelic. Make sure you hit the large barn in farthest back area to pet all the baby animals, too!

    Excellent parking at Muckross House.
We are regular visitors to Muckross House & Gardens. The whole experience is excellent. A real welcome addition this year is the new FREE parking for visitors. Am not usually excited about a car park, but the work and result at Muckross House is well worth a special mention.

Historic house with lots of see and do
Muckross house steeped in history. We took a horse and cart to the waterfall which was beautiful to see. The horse seemed to be well looked after or I wouldn’t have gone. They are based outside the house. Lots of ornaments and artwork. Lots of history. Lake on the land adds to the experience. Cafe and gift shop.

If you enjoy history and old home tours, Muckross is a must see.
Amazing self led tour of a beautifully maintained house and gardens, tour allows you a lot of space and freedom to explore the house. Furgus was a tremendous host in the house who provided a great history lesson for the house, region and Ireland. If you like history and tours of old mansions, this is a must do in the Killarney area.

Visited Muckross House and gardens at Killarney as part of a coaching holiday. All staff from Admission to House and restaurant were caring, friendly and knowledgeable. The house was amazing. Restaurant food was great. Gardens outstanding with fantastic views of the lake and Macgillycuddy Reeks. This is well worth a visit

During the day we walked about the beautiful grounds and gardens of stately Muckross House, followed by a traditional Irish dinner and entertainment at Quill's farm. Dinner was preceded by a tour of the historic farm buildings, highlighting how life was and traditional skills like butter-making, as well as an introduction to a friendly wolfhound and a Clydesdale. Then a good typical Irish meal, accompanied by songs and music and smiles. All quite wonderful.

Beautiful grounds and walking paths.A tour of the house is very interesting, lots of artifacts especially in the kitchen and dining areas. It was interesting to see where the household staff worked and lived and what they used to do their day to day work. We had a very knowledgeable guide who was willing to answer all questions. I think it would be a good experience for anyone who would like to take it in.

Came here as the weather was cloudier than of late. A great choice. The Garden Restaurant was our first stop and the food was good. then we paid to go into the House and to the traditional farms - one ticket to cover both. Tour of the house was self guided and interesting. The traditional farms site was equally interesting with some great guides, especially Hugh in the school. He recommended various walks . The grounds are extensive and you can walk to Torc Waterfall in 30 minutes. Well worth visiting here

An excellent experience of life in a manor house over 200 odd years for a reasonable price. Beautiful lake, and gardens to wander and picnic in, and about 2km to the abbey. Good place to buy goods by Muckross weavers.

Large historic estate in Killarney National Park open to the public. It is free to tour the grounds and gardens and you only pay if you want to tour the inside of the house or visit the traditional farms. Ample parking available. You can stay as long as you want. There are Jaunting horse and guides for hire who will take you around and tell you about the history. Beautiful property to visit and recommended by travel guides Fodor’s, Frommers and Lonely Planet.

The tour started with promise, a great introduction from the person in the stables. He encouraged us to take advantage of the staff that would be throughout the house for more information on the rooms, families and history. Unfortunately, we only saw 3 people, talking amongst themselves and oblivious to visitors. The rooms were a little dark.

Muckross is and always has been my happy place. I love the walks and the views and the whole atmosphere. Recently I visited with my husband who has been confined to a wheelchair and was delighted that everyplace is so accessible. Even the farm walk. I could not believe that the staff were so helpful, organised the farm bus to take us up the hill and picked us up again to finish off the last leg home. The bus was very wheelchair accessible and the driver most courteous. My only negative comment is that though there are wheelchair toilets they are not big enough to go in with the chair. This is a major drawback. One needs to be able to drive in the chair and close the door behind you. Other than that it was perfect.

Start by saying we had a wonderful lunch. There is so much to love about Muckross - the gardens are gorgeous, the lake vistas are breathtaking, the home tour is superb, and again the dining experience was great. The staff was informed, helpful and courteous. Parking and grounds are free of charge, you only pay if you care to your the interior of the house. There are hiking trails, carriage rides, and other events to make a visit a wonderful family experience.

We didn’t go in the house but enjoyed the gardens. My son had fun running around. The farm wasn’t open yet for the season so that was a bit of a disappointment. It was pretty busy, at least compared to other sites we visited.
