After taking my anti-sea-sick pill, I jumped on a boat and enjoyed the ride to Skellig Michael. I had read a lot about this place and have seen many pictures. The views were astounding and the history amazing. To think people lived here for many years gave me goosebumps. The stair climb is tough mainly because it's hard to not... More

When we went to see Skellig Michael we were a bit taken aback by the prices 50 euros per person for the day trip of 30 euros each for the 2.5 hour round the islands without landing and going ashore trip and we were sure that there had been a price hike do to the Star Wars kerfuffle. However I... More

The Skellig's are truly a magical, awe inspiring experience. An amazing testament to human Will, determination, devotion and dedication to a common purpose. Breathtaking. We stayed two nights on Valentia Island at the Shealane House B&B. If you have time to do that, I would highly recommend it. It makes your Skellig day very relaxing knowing you don't have to... Words can never really describe how jaw-dropping this place is. The trek to the top to see the monastery is a bit of a nerve wreaking walk, as the island is steep and there is no railings etc to prevent you from falling. However, if you have a fear of heights (like i do)... just take your time. If i... More

Words cannot even describe this experience if you are able to make it to the top. The warnings that are given regarding the safety of this trip are accurate, but well worth the trip. Don't be afraid to climb down from the monastery on scooting from step to step on your butt as the views to the Atlantic are dizzying.

Depending in sea conditions there are not trips to the island everyday. Some boat trips only go around the island others stop and drop you off for about 1 1/2 - 2 hrs. If there are strong waves the boats cannot dock. There are about 1000 very steep steps to the top. No handrails. Very hazardous. Two of our group... More

I used Casey's Boat Trips to get out there and they were fantastic. The Island itself was incredible, although it is a tough climb, so make sure you are able to get up the 600 steps, and wear appropriate clothing. If you can make it, the views are stunning and the guides at the top are informative, helpful and friendly.... More

My Boyfriend had booked us on Joe Roddy's tour to The Skelligs. When we arrived we were told that we were a day late, we insisted that we were there on the right day, the day we booked. Joe looked at his diary pointing to different days saying there is no booking here for you. Then he saw he had... More

A must do! I'll say right up front - I did not climb all the way to the top, but I still loved it! Physically, I could do the actual climb, but as I started out a fear of heights & falling overcame me. There are no guard rails, due to it being a World Heritage Site. My 13 &... More

I don't even remember how I learned of this place, but we had put it on our must-do list, without really knowing what we were getting ourselves into. I was wearing clogs, a skirt and a sweater that had lots of extra wraps dangling from it. Consequently, when we arrived and they first told us about the treacherous hike (two... More
