This architectural fragment is located along the edge of Eyre Square. The doorway has historical significance and displays the crests of two of Galway’s most important historic families. Worth a minute if you are in Eyre Square.

This doorway would be of very little interest to anyone who is not interested in Galway. However, if you are interested in the history of the city, then this is a great visit.

It was a shame to see how this little remnant of history had been presented , however at least it has been saved. Include this destination when you are walking around the city centre.

Amazing item from history. It was interesting from that point of view. It was only a 5 minute item so not a point of destination but an item to go to along with many other items.

We were excited to visit and hopefully admire this remnant of the home of one of the city's merchant rulers! The mansion had been built in 1627. On the day of our visit, a large section of the upper side of Eyre Square had been...More

This is a door and window from a mansion-house built in the late 16th or early 17th Century and now installed located in Eyre Square in Galway. There's a plaque covered by dirty scratched perspex explaining its history. It's good that it has been saved...More

We were taking a tour of the city and came across the doorway on our stroll. It is the remains of an old mansion to show how a typical house looked like in the 16th century. The mansion was destroyed, but they saved the facade...More

Worthwhile to look as you are there but not to seek out. Unusual spot to place The Door, which we though was a good idea. The dirty perspex detracted from it. Read a potted history before hand.

I understand the need to protect history, but the plexiglass surrounding the door makes it more difficult to appreciate. It is admirable though that the city placed it out in the open instead of in a museum.

It was disappointing to see it enclosed in plexi glass that is not well maintained. It was so dirty you couldn't see the archectural design.
