Salthill Prom is a 365 day location but really alive in good weather
Walking the Promenade -known as the Prom- in Salthill is a year round must do activity in Galway. If you are local you are sure to bump into someone you will recognize. Take a swim on the beach or at Blackrock Diving Tower. In high summer there are lifeguards on duty until 7pm on 7 days a week. There are coffee shops and bars and restaurants and fast food venues nearby

    Salthill Diving Board
Always wanted to go here to jump off the diving board at the end of the beach. It was patrolled by life guards and there is a changing area right beside the pier. Was brilliant fun - just make sure to check the tide times as they do close it around low tide.

Paradise found on a sunny day, bring your puppy - it's the catwalk for cute doggie with nice ribbons on their hair.
On a lovely sunny day, Salthill looks like the most beautiful paradise on earth, with marvellous views stretching over the Burren in Co. Clare and as far as the eye can see. I live here, my passport expired over 25 years ago, and I have been to Spain on a few occasions, Corfu and Portugal and then I gave up as there is nothing as beautiful as what is on my doorstep. You are guaranteed some lovely hot sunny days if you come in late April or May. Blackrock Tower is a diving tower where many swimmers brave out its multilevel dives all year round. A nice long walk is to start at the Claddagh and walk to Blackrock and there you will see a place where it's tradition to kick the wall to say you made it. A shorter walk is to start from Seapoint and walk to Blackrock Pier. Many people pose their little Pugs, Shih Tzu's, Yorkies etc,. as they walk along - don't forget that people are friendly and they or their children may want to talk to your doggie, be sure to say clearly that 'he doesn't like to be touched' if you got a grouchy dog. Many dogs will stop to investigate other dogs, don't be a snob - join in. If you accidentally hit their child with your buggy, the parents will say that's fine, she's not hurt, but if you tip their dog with your buggy - prepare yourself for a very big telling off.

Great place to grab a cup of coffee and walk for a while. Safe and clean. Bathrooms along the way (.20 cents). Rocky beaches and swimming available. Must do in Salthill.

The Promenade has a great walking path and beautiful views of Galway Bay. You can just walk the path, or you can enjoy the shops and restaurants along the street.

Beautiful walk along Galway Bay. Nice and easy for my wheelchair. Lovely views. People swimming even in 10 degree November weather! Could have some shops but probably more in summer.

It is lovely to have a nice walk along the seafront. It is well maintained and sign posted. You can then pop into any of the many shops, bars, pubs or restaurants for a drink or bite to eat.

It started out a cloudy day and then the sun shone brightly! The walkway along the water’s edge was delightful! First week in October it was pretty quiet, very windy, but relaxing!
