About
A medieval masterpiece, St. Nicholas’ Collegiate Church is a living link to the past, serving the community today as it has done for over 700 years. Step into the serene atmosphere of one of the great medieval churches of Ireland. Step back 700 years to a time of Norman Lords and Celtic chieftains. Follow the footsteps and hear the stories of the Knights Templar, Cristopher Columbus, the ‘Tribes of Galway’ and Dubhaltach Mac Fhirbhisigh.

You know the places ran by love, this is one of them. We attended a Sonas Due this morning and were filled with love, from the greeting at the door, delicious home made pastry and coffee, and the main performance on Cello and Piano.
The church itself is a cozy local masterpiece.

This church dates from 1320! It is the largest medieval parish church in Ireland (and, it is not very large). A very historic building.

We were lucky to be in town, and hear about, for an early afternoon concert there of a group, "ConTempo Countywide." I believe they have concerts there every couple of weeks.

Located just round the corner of Tig Coili, down Market Street is this wonderful church. Founded in 1320 (!) and dedicated to the patron saint of seafarers and visited by Christopher Columbus in 1477. Be sure to read all the pamphlets as the contain loads of facts, and if you happen to be there as a tour group is wondering through, the acoustics allow you to catch all the guide's wisdom. Afterwards, be sure to cross the street and visit Sheridan's Cheese Mongers.

BLACK MOLD EVERYWHERE. It was bad and we left after about 5 minutes. We asked the staff about it, and there was a lot about old buildings and it never hurt anyone.
Expensive for walking around an empty building, no tourist leaflet, just use the posts, but they were on the wrong places (unless the music school practices in the closed bell tower), open times here and on the church door were wrong too.
Woman at reception was enthusiastic, but she was very rude to staff when we were walking around, made us very uncomfortable. Also when we asked about the mold, the sunny welcome expression disappeared and she began to fluster and deny it. The black mold, on every wall.
Strange experience, very twilight world, can’t recommend unless your going in to pray and then you get in free.

This is right off of Market Street in the heart of Galway. Columbus worshiped here, it's loaded with history, beautiful and we were greeted by friendly, informative parishioners during their annual Christmas Market both inside and outside the church. Don't miss this.

So this place has been in continuous use as a place of worship for 700 plus years. It’s well worth a visit and if you can try get to one of the services with the choir. A must visit in Galway and just off the main street

Allow at least an hour and a half to do this justice . Try and do the guided tour . There’s history in every stone .The church is like a time line of Irish history since the foundation stone was laid .

St Nicholas is the saint who gave us Santa. The church is named for him. Legend says Christoper Columbas visited Galway before sailing on his voyage of discovery .

What a beautiful church. Rich in history. The guide, Mr Burke, was fabulous, humorous, extremely knowledgable & hugely proud of his part in the history of the church. We could have stayed for hours. St. Nicolas has worked really hard at providing a thoroughly interesting tour experience. We can highly recommend.

Liked the church but didn’t love it, located just outside the main city area but easy to find. Not a big church so didn’t find it to be amazing or a must see.

Would recommend going in if close by, but wouldn’t go out of my way to see it. Also didn’t seem to be that well maintained.

This church is beautiful and so rich in the history of Galway and Ireland. Our guide Jessica was delightful. She was enthusiastic and made the building and the history come to life. I can't wait to go back and check on all of the work that is just getting started. Thank you for sharing this gem with us!
