Visit on a CIE tour

Wonderful stop to see cutting peat and learning about some history of Ireland. Had a chance to try potion. I believe it is Irish moonshine.

Visited here with two grandchildren. It was fascinating to see the turf being cut and visit the cottage of Dan O'Hara. The story was very well told by the guide together with a bar of the famous song. A video show in the centre with soup and sandwiches made it a memorable visit.

We traveled up the mountain in a trolley-type wagon pulled by a tractor. The driver of the tractor was also our guide. Very fun and interesting. He showed us how they dig and dry the peat to be used for heating their home. There were several buildings, including a small hut with a fireplace--neat to smell the peat burning. The... More

This provides an excellent stopping off point on the amazing drive across Connemara and the 20 minute introductory video gives a good overview to the area and also the specific history of the farm. It is a good but sad story! In a relaxed setting there is plenty to see and do - rest and have a cup of tea... More

We visited this site for 2 hours with a Homeschooling tour group and had a wonderful educational experience. Had a coffee, saw the movie, then we took a tractor ride up the mountain and saw wonderful views and then learned about the life of the family who lived and farmed here before they were evicted. They had a lovely gift... More

We had a lot of fun visiting this homestead. The food was great and the atmosphere was wonderful. You really get the full Irish experience when you visit the farm. The people who work here are pleasant and professional. The gentleman who gave us the tour was lots of fun and full of history. The view from the top of... More

When I visited this farm, it was with a CIE Tour so we got the full treatment. Lunch was wonderful, real Irish food. The tour was fun (a ride in a tram pulled by a huge tractor) and Martin was typically Irish with a good wit and some great stories told in the old homestead. Since my daughter is a... More

This is for people who have some interest in farming, or want to learn about some of the Irish life in the past. View the movie at the visitor center and look at some of the exhibits. You can then drive or walk to the homestead. If you have never been to this type of place, it gives you an... More

Our visit to the site was not on our original agenda, but glad we made the adjustment. The history of the site was very interesting and although the walk up to the farmstead is a tad long it's worth the trek. Encountered numerous sheep (nothing new) and a few "friendly/inquisitive" donkeys along the roadway. The views from homestead were fantastic.... More

We were disappointed. Supposed to see a working farm but all we saw was a short talk on peat and then another short talk in the original cottage of Dan O'Hara. Yes it was raining but we were in a covered tram pulled by a tractor.
