We stopped in to St Catharines church while wandering around the liberties. We went inside and enjoyed the peace.

Best part was that they let you take pictures inside the church. The stained glass windows are stunning and the historical path leading through the church is ominous.

I went to a Sunday mass here. This church is right around the corner from St.Patricks. It’s in a Unique neighborhood where Temple Bar (tourist section of Dublin) meets a residential neighborhood.

We stopped off here while walking to Kilmainham Gaol.
I lit some candles. It was very peaceful and calm. Loved it.

With a church in this location since the late 12th century, its lineage is indeed impressive. The current building dates from the 1760s and it is replete with attractive design and architectural features.
Doric columns adorn the facade and a pediment sits atop. The tower is a fine addition.
Robert Emmet was executed on the site in 1803 because of his pursuit of National independence against the English. A commemorative plaque marks the spot.
With a decline in the Church of Ireland congregation the church closed and was deconsecrated in 1967. For a period it was used by the Local Authority for various events.
Fortunately in the late 1990s it was re-consecrated as a place of worship and today serves as a helpful resource for the community.

We went here by mistake, while walking through the city, but I'm so glad we did. It is very beautiful!

I was interested in a Church of Ireland service, but decided we didn't want a formal service. St Catherine's was good for us then, in that it had a good band to lead the people in music, and the preaching was closely tied to the songs that were sung. The main song was 'Good, good Father' by Chris Tomlin. We met a friendly couple at coffee who chatted with us for a while.

This is a pretty normal looking church by Dublin Standards, if you are looking for something more architectural maybe try St Augustinian, St Audoen's, Christchurch or St Patrick's, all a stones throw from here.
Though one thing this place does have over the others is local attendance in mass, and one of Dublin's more well known Grotto's.
Even though I am from the other side of Dublin, I visit here regularly for the shopping, which I am surprised isn't on TripAdvisor. When I come over for the market type retail around here, St Catherine's grotto is a must do, once you've got past the beggars, you will see the grotto, which always reminds of that old time religious side of Dublin life, all the rosaries hanging off and offerings.
Mass here is great too(if you are a catholic of course) and is very representative of the older population of working class Dublin's devotion to the lord, in fact this would be the only place I know in the South central city that is like that, this is something you'd see more out around the suburbs nowadays.

During a recent visit we dropped into the Church on our way to tour the Guinness hops store. Church ha a large fire in 2012 and was restored. Old marble was painted and after the fire was uncovered and makes this church very beautiful inside. Simple design from about 1850's. Well worth a walk through and a visit to the Grotto in the back if its open.
