The George is not just any bar or any gay bar. It is the first port of call for young gay people in Ireland, it is the venue where gay and straight people mix together and where international visitors stop to check out the gay scene in Ireland. The George has been the lynchpin that holds Dublin's gay scene together. Having been around for 30 years it has been a home to the development of the social evolution of gay Ireland.

"A mix of styles with a sprinkling of fairy dust thrown in", The George features two bar areas; the front bar affectionately known as ‘Bridies' after one of the bar's longest serving staff members; with its low lighting and leather clad barstools is the perfect spot for a quiet drink and a chat. The main club venue has been graced by the presence of some of the hottest international acts including Alexandra Burke, Daniel Johnson, The Saturdays and Bananarama. It is also where you can see some of the best weekly performances in the city Space'N'Veda, Davina's House-Party and featuring International Cabaret Artiste Extraordinaire TM and former child-star Shirley Temple Bar at Sunday night Bingo!

Good vibe bar, excellent toilets, good music but hey what's going on here with their policy not to stock irish or even premium gins? No Hendrix, Brockmans or gunpowder! What's going on? Is this a branch of weather spoons with bland uk gins?

We went for the bingo on Sunday night. It was a mini moon so we booked a table. We got a complimentary bottle of fizz. As ever a great show with lots of laughs.

The venue is a must-see if you want to familiarise with Gay Dublin. It plays pop music and offers great drag show with the ladies singing, lip singing, jumping, dancing, serving glamour and being extra funny. It mostly attracts youngsters (up to 25) and mature audiences. It is easy to talk to people around once you make sure you don't... More

We started the evening upstairs where it tends to be a younger crowd. We were there early so not so crowded. There was a cover. Everyone very friendly and open to chatting. Lots of gay boys with their straight girl friends dancing. There is also a dance floor below which was more crowded. You can check things out from the bar... More

Barmans on the top flour were rude and umprepared. The club is nice, but staff must be better. Just becouse I couldnt understand what the barman says (cause music was to loud) he refuses in a rude way to get my drink.

Fun place for a night out- met friendly locals and tourists and had a great time! The drag show was excellent and was a great way to end our vacation.

A group of us working in Northern Ireland decided to come down to Dublin for the night and we were recommended by our managers that the George was a great night out and they were right! We all had a great night watching the drag queens performing as for some of us it was the first time and we all... More

Maybe it was our American accents? Or maybe 40-something is ancient by this bar's standards? (I hear the adjoining bar is called "Jurassic" by the locals because of the older clientele). In any case, 2 friends and I, all from Austin Texas, were denied entry to George about 30 minutes ago. We had stopped in for one beer at the... More
