This is the original chimney from the Jameson distillery now converted into a viewing platform.
Be prepared to walk up, and down, over 250 steps to access the viewing area but it is certainly worth it. The views are amazing. I loved the fact that the name of each location was printed on the windows to avoid any confusion.

Helpful staff at the Generator Hotel (just next to the entrance of the tower) where you buy the tickets.
Great views across the city, well worth the climb up the steps.
It was great to get the perspective from this height and I’m so glad I visited

Very disappointing. Struggled to get there through busy downtown Dublin ... twice. Both times the "lift" was "out". Both times, staff said there was NO indication of when or even IF the "lift" would be repaired. The view may be terrific, but we are not able to climb 250+ stairs to find out.

This is a must do when in Dublin City
We were the only people there and it was fantastic. Be prepared as there’s lots of steps to climb to get to the top but it’s well worth it. The views are stunning and it only cost €5 each.

This is a really great place to visit!! It is quite a lot of steps, going round and round, so take your time as it is easy to get dizzy!! The 360 degree views of Dublin are amazing, really interesting to be able to see all the landmarks and places we had visited from up there! We were lucky as it was a quiet day and we had the whole place to ourselves, so lots of time and space to explore and take photos. It was a windy day, and we could feel the tower wobbling!!! This added to the fun (it didn't feel unsafe at all).

The Generator hostle staff was super friendly in getting us tickets and were really clear about what we were in for on the climb - over 240 steps. My husband and I arent exactly fit and were winded once we got to the top so we spent longer looking at everything to be able to catch our breath. It was really a beautiful view and we were the only ones up there.

244 steps with 16 landings for a rest or turning round to go back. No seriously the 244 steps are well worth it once you get to the double layered platforms at the top. You have to admire the guys who built the chimney. Great great views on a clear day once you are at the top. It's would be great if the lift could become operational again, and getting to gain access could be made less of a treasure hunt into the Generator Hostel next door. That said great to see it reopened and accessible again.

If you like a good view this is the place to get it! Great city views, on a clear sunny morning we could see right across to the sea! It’s not for the faint hearted - 244 steps to climb and a long way down! But all worth it! We visited early Sunday morning and had the place to ourselves- definitely recommended! Cheap and cheerful tourist attraction!

The viewing area some 200 ft. above ground, is it an enclosed (glass?) observation deck type, or it's open viewing (no enclosure glass)? The Guinness one seems to be totally glass-enclosed. Is the Smithfield Chimney that bad as some commented? Is the obstruction of view there?
