It was a very cold windy day when we visited so didn’t stay for a massive amount of time but it was nice to have a wander, clear the cobwebs away and enjoy the quiet tranquility away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Lots of walkways to follow to enjoy the wonderful array of plants, trees and flowers, and a few statues along the way. My favourite being Oscar Wild. It’s nice to go for a walk on a lovely day or go for a picnic, sunbathe etc… There is a playground also for kids. Within the park there is a statue to one of Dublin's most famous former residents - Oscar Wilde who lived in a house just across the road from the square. The National Defence Memorial is also in the square which is a small pyramid close to one of the entrances. There is a children's playground close to Oscar's statue and some well tended parks to stroll along. I visited on a spring evening and the weather was good. The park was very busy with people relaxing on the ground as well as children playing and people passing through on the way to their destinations. Very peaceful and welcoming for a break after a long day exploring Dublin. I found a few little "extras" including a corner including a status of Oscar Wilde (on the NW corner, across from his childhood home) and a tribute to the 4 branches of the military (look in the windows of the triangle). I bet there is more! VERY close to the National Gallery of Art, National Museum in Dublin/Natural History (Dead Zoo) and the Oscar Wilde house. This lovely park sits in the center of Dublin. The park is a green urban oasis, and it is surrounded by beautiful and historically important buildings. In the park is a lifesize memorial statue of Oscar Wilde sitting on a rock that is absolutely worth a photo stop. Nearby buildings include the magnificent domed Department of the Taoiseach, the office of Ireland‘s Prime Minister, as well as the National Gallery. And nearby is the impressive rear facade of Leinster House, home to Ireland’s Parliament. Also lining the streets near Merrion Square are rows of beautiful Georgian townhouses. And at No. 24 Upper Merrion St. is an architectural gem that is also an interesting historic site, the birthplace of the 1st Duke of Wellington, who defeated Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo. Now part of the grand Merrion Hotel, No. 24 is just a short walk from the park and just across the street from the imposing Government Buildings. This area is a delight for photographers and lovers of history.

Nicely maintained park with sculptures and floral beds. Good to walk around and see the lovely Georgian buildings on all sides. The rather bizarre Oscar Wilde statue of him leaning on a boulder looking a bit drunk is also here!

We walked through here on the way back to our hotel. It was hot that day and this park gave us not only shade, but a short cut. You could say it saved our lives. But really, it would be great to visit anytime. So much green grass, large trees and shrubs, plus the peacefulness you gain by not walking on the city streets. Walk through if you are in the neighborhood.

Not as bustling a park as the better-known St Stephens Green which is close by. Merrion Sq is opposite Irelands National Gallery with its Yeats collection and the Dail/Irish Parliament - last time I was in the Park a Senior Minister was doing a photo-shoot. Beautiful mix of tranquility, open space greenery, flower beds, statues and memorials, and a children’s playground.

This was one of the battlefields during the uprisings and the event is chronicled on a series of signs around the park walkway. It is interesting and the fauna is well kept. The garden was very busy while we were there and although there were people working diligently to clear the litter, I was surprised to see so much of it. Our experience of Ireland was of a very clean environment but this area seemed to attract more wrappers. Perhaps it was just higher tourist traffic here.

A lovely small park in the heart of Georgian Dublin. There's a statue of Oscar Wilde in one corner which tourists like to visit. The green lawns are well-kept and in spring yellow daffodils and multi-colored hyacinths were in full bloom. This is a pleasant place to stroll or sit in on a nice day. Some of the city's best museums are also nearby.

I discovered Marion Square just today during the last day of my trip.

what do the small numbered copper discs ,about two inch each in diameter each on the footpath opposite the houses represent?

Where is the parking area. We will be getting the hop on hop off bus and want to park at Merton sq

You have parking all around the park but it can be very busy there are parking in some of the streets off the park also .I hope this is helpful.
