About
The Jeanie Johnston tells the story of the thousands of Irish people who fled the Famine and embarked on a treacherous voyage in the hope of a better life in North America. Step on board and you will be transported back in time to join them on their gruelling journey. The tour takes approximately 50 minutes and is led by one of our knowledgeable guides. The tour begins with a walk around the upper deck, where you will see the majestic masts, admire the craftsmanship and learn about the ship’s history. Next you'll learn the real life stories of passengers while visiting below deck.

Great story told - worth the effort
This is well worth the hour you need to do the guided tour. Get timed tickets on line. But the docent, Clare, was very informed and energetic about the heartwarming story yet truthful about the reason for the famine. Amazing story. We did the EPIC museum afterwards included in the ticket but not as impressed but if you have not heard the Ireland story it is a good overview and includes cultural history too
Dear RichardC086, Thank you for visiting the Jeanie Johnston. We are delighted to hear that your time on board with Clare was such a positive experience. We sincerely appreciate you taking the time to share your review with us. Kind regards, Amano The Jeanie Johnston Team

    Best Hour in Dublin
A stunning story brought to life aboard the replica of an emigration ship. Guide Steve was outstanding in explaining in 50 minutes how this was the only ship that preserved all life on board, and why. Seeing below deck (not suitable for those with mobility limitations) how people lived, and why they were spared, was amazing. Truly one of the best guided tours ever. Do this before seeing the EPIC museum across the street.
Dear proflewis, Thank you for visiting the Jeanie Johnston and for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We are delighted to hear that you so thoroughly enjoyed your time on board with our guide Steve. Kind regards, Amano The Jeanie Johnston Team

    Moved to tears
My sister and I are were moved to tears from this story. Our guide Claire made everything so real and as our ancestors had come from ireland this way we were beyond emotional. Its not all sad though....Claire had us laughing too. It was the best tour we've done so far in Dublin. Would recommend it to anyone visiting

    Great history tour.
Great tour, guide was full of interesting facts and had great little jokes. Gave us advice for things to do afterward. I think his name was Gerold (probably spelling it wrong, sorry Gerold!).
Dear Chiefly18, Thank you for sharing this great review of your time on board the Jeanie Johnston with our guide Gearoid. We hope the rest of your time in Dublin was fantastic. Kind regards, Amano The Jeanie Johnston Team

    The Irish Experience
Very informative tour of a replica Irish Immigrant Ship the 1840s. Enjoyed learning of the heartbreaking experiences of the impoverished Irish who had to flee the Terrible Hunger. This tour is a must for anyone who wants a greater understanding of this tragic period of Irish history.
Dear F1119FJericf, Thank you for visiting the Jeanie Johnston. We sincerely appreciate you taking the time to share this review of your experience with us. While this history is devastatingly sad, we hope you were uplifted by the unique story of the Jeanie and her passengers. Kind regards, Amano The Jeanie Johnston Team

Anyone With Irish Roots - Anyone Who’s Family Emigrated- Must See This
Our guide Gerod provides you with the grim history with good humor and a big heart . His righteous pride in Ireland and the Irish here and abroad was evident. It was so well worth the time and expense even though we can barely appreciate the hardships people endured to find a new life. Seeing a historical figure with my Mom’s family name was emotional and made it that much more impactful. The EPIC Museum is well paired with the ship visit.
Dear KevinB014, Thank you for visiting the Jeanie Johnston and EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum. We are delighted to hear that your time on board with our guide Gearoid was so impactful. Thank you for sharing your personal experience with us - our team sincerely appreciates your feedback. Kind regards, Amano The Jeanie Johnston Team

Great kids activity in the city center.
This tour was such a pleasure. I took my five year old son who is really into ships and pirates. Our guide Gearóid was very patient and knowledgeable and showed us all the quirky little things in the ship. I definitely recommend this to anyone with kids who will be in the city center. Interesting for anyone who would like to actually see the size and conditions of a famine (coffin) ship.
Dear aodhnaitd, We are delighted to hear that you and your son enjoyed a wonderful afternoon aboard the Jeanie Johnston with our guide Gearóid. Thank you for your recommendation and we hope to welcome you back agian in the future. Kind regards, Amano The Jeanie Johnston Team

    A must-do!
So glad we booked this tour aboard this exact replica of the Jeanie Johnston famine ship. I loved getting to explore the ship and hear numerous stories of the real people who made the journey from Ireland to North America. Our guide was wonderful and we learned a lot. Uplifting tour even though the famine was so tragic for the Irish.

    Excellent
Excellent tour- well presented. Being on board a replica of the Jeanie Johnstone really helps convey what it must have been like to be on one of these ships. Jerry presented with deep knowledge and great humour

The replica ship stands on the Liffey and our guide Gearoid was very knowledgeable and interesting to listen to. We were told the history of the ship and others like her and about the lives of some of those who travelled on her. Sadly another tour came down before we had a chance to read or properly look at the models and signage after the guide had finished. This left us feeling rushed and unable to properly grasp what there was to see. Another ten minutes would have been nice so that we could have moved around beneath the deck a bit more.

Given some local construction, it may feel like the thing to pass-on, but I would not miss it! We had an amazing tour with Gearoid! It was informative, well paced and interactive. Gearoid was great at asking us to think based on the tales he was sharing.

Absolutely brilliant experience. Both serious and funny all in 1 tour. The guide, lucy, was great. A wealth of knowledge and so friendly you felt encouraged to ask your questions (or in my case, make sarcastic comments). The "wine aunts" before the tour were great craic. It's lovely to see staff who actually enjoy their job, like their coworkers and have good craic with the customers. My sister and I learned so much from the tour that we as irish people feel we should have known already. We've been recommending it to everyone since we came back to work. We even got to pretend to be pirates after!!!. 10/10
The only thing the tour needs is a cat in the corner downstairs... you know, for all the rats there would have been back then. Most important.

The Jeanie Johnstone replica famine ship is well worth a visit. Tours are conducted in small groups and our tour guide Clare really brought the history to life with her enthusiastic but sensitive telling of this particularly difficult period in Ireland's history. Bravo Clare!
