This bar was close and within walking distance to our B&B in Dublin. We thought it might be a touristy kind of place but I was a large place that offered limited inside seating and a lot of outside seating. It was packed the night we attended . It was a Thursday. Totally joyous and fun. Clearly a place where locals and visitors convened.

Passing by looking for someplace to rest. The sounds of live music and the hubub of a crowd drew us into a fantastic way to say goodbye to Dublin. Great music, libations, and other patrons. All very friendly and a real sense of just having a good time. 9 folks sitting around a couple of tables entertaining themselves as much as the viewing crowd. An awesome evening, stopped by for one and stayed for more.

What a great place! This pub was right by our hotel and also recommended by our taxi driver and a bartender at another pub. It truly is an authentic Irish Pub. We sat at the bar at were greeted immediately! This pub is rich in history and they have the pictures and concert posters to prove it! It has a musty smell hahaha is the on,y reason for four stars instead of four but definitely worth a stop!

Visited here Monday 25.07.2022 for lunch. We were doing a walkabout on our last day in Dublin before we flew back to the US after vacation. We had stopped for a drink here one afternoon in 2018. This time we had plenty of time for lunch. Place was busy but we were seated right away near the bar. Server Rezah brought us menus and took our drink order. We had a wine (E7) & a beer (E4.50). We had a chicken caesar salad (E12.20) and the soup & grilled sandwich special (E9.50). Both were brought to our table in 20 minutes, well prepared and tasty. A very good value in the heart of Dublin. Sales & VAT taxes are confusing. They are itemized on tabs but are included in price of food & drink. Great service & good food & drink at a valued price. Authentic and historic Irish pub with bags of character. It was packed when we visited (England v Ireland Six Nations rugby) and the banter was warm hearted and fin. Drinks were more reasonably priced that Temple Bar.

Beers only though I could smell good food coming from somewhere nearby. Went to the bar to get our beer and then sit down somewhere, either inside or outside. Pull up a stool next to others. Talking with strangers doesn’t exist here, only with friends you have yet to meet! :-)

Walking through the downtown area on our first evening in Dublin, we needed a quick stop for dinner. O'Donoghues Bar hit the spot! The chicken tenders with piri piri sauce were delicious, cooked perfectly, and light enough that we could keep walking and enjoy our Dublin evening. We didn’t stay for the nightly music, but I can imagine doing so on another evening!

We went to O'Donoghue's on a Saturday afternoon. I am a huge fan of the Irish band, the Dubliners, and this bar was their homefront. Talked to one of the barmen who said John Sheehan had been in a couple weeks before. Anyway, the bar was packed but we were served almost immediately. We had found a table to the right of the entrance and quite close to the bar. I had beer, Smithwicks this time, and my wife had a sandwich to with her beer. Even with the large crowd, service was great and barmen were jovial and friendly. We would have returned another day but our hotel was quite a way from here. Going to O'Donoghue's was a goal during our Dublin visit and I am glad we made it !!

On our way back to the hotel from a Book of Kells tour, we decided we wanted to stop for a couple drinks and hear a little Irish music. Just happened to pass O'Donoghues, and one of our tour guides had mentioned it earlier in the day. So we swung in, found a table in the courtyard area, and ordered our drinks. We were enjoying our drinks, and conversation with some friends, waiting for the music to start. Unfortunately, for us, a group of about 10 came in and sat at the 3 tables beside us, and most of them smoked. As soon as they all lit up, it kind of ruined the experience and we ended up finishing our drinks and leaving. The music had just started, and we did catch a little of it....it's the real deal.

My friend & I came here after walking by at lunchtime hearing music in the distance we were pleasantly surprised when we walked through the small alley/passage to be greeted by 4 guys playing instruments& singing traditional irish songs - they were FANTASTIC. The atmosphere was 10/10 the singing & music was just brilliant & the staff are also lovely & friendly. An absolute hidden gem of a place, reasonably priced & definitely worth a visit when in Dublin - don’t be put off from outside this place is brilliant
