About
O'Donoghue's is a historically significant drinking establishment. Built in 1789 as a grocery store, it began operating full time as a bar in 1934. The famous Irish folk group The Dubliners started here in the early 1960s and to this day there is live traditional Irish music 7 nights a week.

- Cynthia H27 contributionsA very good time! This bar was close and within walking distance to our B&B in Dublin. We thought it might be a touristy kind of place but I was a large place that offered limited inside seating and a lot of outside seating. It was packed the night we attended . It was a Thursday. Totally joyous and fun. Clearly a place where locals and visitors convened.Visited November 2022Written 9 December 2022
- Paul D15 contributionsA true pub experiencePassing by looking for someplace to rest. The sounds of live music and the hubub of a crowd drew us into a fantastic way to say goodbye to Dublin. Great music, libations, and other patrons. All very friendly and a real sense of just having a good time. 9 folks sitting around a couple of tables entertaining themselves as much as the viewing crowd. An awesome evening, stopped by for one and stayed for more.Visited December 2022Travelled with familyWritten 28 December 2022
- RebeccaWCarmelCarmel, Indiana197 contributionsAuthentic Irish PubWhat a great place! This pub was right by our hotel and also recommended by our taxi driver and a bartender at another pub. It truly is an authentic Irish Pub. We sat at the bar at were greeted immediately! This pub is rich in history and they have the pictures and concert posters to prove it! It has a musty smell hahaha is the on,y reason for four stars instead of four but definitely worth a stop!Visited January 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 12 January 2023
- napngsAlbany, New York353 contributionsNice visit to this 24/7 pub in Dublin, Ireland 25.07.2022Visited here Monday 25.07.2022 for lunch. We were doing a walkabout on our last day in Dublin before we flew back to the US after vacation. We had stopped for a drink here one afternoon in 2018. This time we had plenty of time for lunch. Place was busy but we were seated right away near the bar. Server Rezah brought us menus and took our drink order. We had a wine (E7) & a beer (E4.50). We had a chicken caesar salad (E12.20) and the soup & grilled sandwich special (E9.50). Both were brought to our table in 20 minutes, well prepared and tasty. A very good value in the heart of Dublin. Sales & VAT taxes are confusing. They are itemized on tabs but are included in price of food & drink. Great service & good food & drink at a valued price. Nice place to visit. Thank you. Nick Parisi & Liz Farrell Albany, NY, USAVisited July 2022Written 21 February 2023
- Julia @Scrumptious SolentSouthampton, United Kingdom2,317 contributionsWhat a pub to visit on St Patrick’s Day weekend!Authentic and historic Irish pub with bags of character. It was packed when we visited (England v Ireland Six Nations rugby) and the banter was warm hearted and fin. Drinks were more reasonably priced that Temple Bar.Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 March 2023
- OhiOkie233 contributionsMeet friends you haven’t met yet here!Beers only though I could smell good food coming from somewhere nearby. Went to the bar to get our beer and then sit down somewhere, either inside or outside. Pull up a stool next to others. Talking with strangers doesn’t exist here, only with friends you have yet to meet! :-)Visited May 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 14 May 2023
- Lori S1 contributionDelicious First Meal in DublinWalking through the downtown area on our first evening in Dublin, we needed a quick stop for dinner. O'Donoghues Bar hit the spot! The chicken tenders with piri piri sauce were delicious, cooked perfectly, and light enough that we could keep walking and enjoy our Dublin evening. We didn’t stay for the nightly music, but I can imagine doing so on another evening!Visited August 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 22 August 2023

Talked to one of the barmen who said John Sheehan had been in a couple weeks before. Anyway, the bar was packed but we were served almost immediately. We had found a table to the right of the entrance and quite close to the bar. I had beer, Smithwicks this time, and my wife had a sandwich to with her beer. Even with the large crowd, service was great and barmen were jovial and friendly. We would have returned another day but our hotel was quite a way from here. Going to O'Donoghue's was a goal during our Dublin visit and I am glad we made it !!Visited July 2023Written 27 August 2023
- Mike BMineral, Virginia1,023 contributionsNice Setting, Real Deal Irish MusicOn our way back to the hotel from a Book of Kells tour, we decided we wanted to stop for a couple drinks and hear a little Irish music. Just happened to pass O'Donoghues, and one of our tour guides had mentioned it earlier in the day. So we swung in, found a table in the courtyard area, and ordered our drinks. We were enjoying our drinks, and conversation with some friends, waiting for the music to start. Unfortunately, for us, a group of about 10 came in and sat at the 3 tables beside us, and most of them smoked. As soon as they all lit up, it kind of ruined the experience and we ended up finishing our drinks and leaving. The music had just started, and we did catch a little of it....it's the real deal.Visited September 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 5 September 2023

Fantastic live music with a fun lively atmosphere. Me and my wife came here a few times in our week in Dublin and this was hands-down the best nightlife spot in the Temple Bar area. O'Donoghue's has a lot of locals and regulars as well, and later on in the night on Fridays and Saturdays becomes a lively place with a little bit of dancing but is a friendly and clean atmosphere, without being too crowded.
The live musicians were easily the most talented we had seen in the area, able to pull off music from a wide range of genres while keeping things engaged and fun.
We didn't try the food, but their cocktails were excellent as well.

Staff were pig ignorant, just plain rude. Drinks are fierce expensive. There are far nicer pubs even around the corner, would suggest Hartigans if you want staff that aren't horrifically rude. And it's not in a fun irish slagging way it's in a way that'd deserve a pint thrown in their face way.

Great Irish pub upscale near parliment not a tourist trap or temple bar. Love it. Right down the street from the Merriam great location a real feel of Dublin business crowd.

We went in just after lunch, around 15:30 on a Monday. Nice atmosphere, very relaxed. A good mix of tourists and locals but not busy at all. We ordered a pint of Guinness and a pint of their own beer that's on tap. Price for the two pints was 13.80E. An Irish lad was behind the bar - poured the Guinness like a beer, didn't allow the Guinness time to surge and settle for a little while, and then top-up -> this is how a pint is supposed to be poured. Very surprised that O'Donoghue's hasn't taken the time to train their staff in how to pour a proper pint of Guinness - disappointing. This is why I have give a ** rating. You might get this lack of knowledge abroad but it's just simply not acceptable in Dublin.

Very average full Irish breakfast, plus orange juice for €17. Definitely overpriced. Service was fine.

Hello, is the rooms entrance separate from the pub?

Kind of - you walk into the side beer garden and the door up to the rooms is at the entrance. When the pubs closed you can still get in.
