We really enjoyed this museum. The audio tour of the rooms was very informative and the exhibition was very comprehensive.
A great exhibition and well worth the money. Particularly of interest was the stain glass window of the Irish Writers.

This was our third visit to the museum and we've been fastinated each time on how many famous authors are from Ireland. Most fastinating though, is the original manuscript of Frankenstein at the museum.
If you're a writer, don't forget to visit the gift shop. It's full of all kinds of wonderful things from mouse pads to framed sayings.

Made a special effort to spend time here on our stay in Dublin but realised there were only exhibits of male writers. What a waste! Went upstairs and saw that the museum is starting a room for female writers but so little and why not integrated downstairs?
The bookshop alas has very little of interest, unlike the library which was teeming with a wonderful collection! Dublin and Ireland has such a sea of talent I did expect more, especially about ots talented female writers. Beautiful house in the lovely Parnell Sq.

We are so disappointed - old, shabby museum, no effort whatsoever to make it interesting to the visitors. Such wasted potential, as the material is great. It needs to be more interactive and appealing. A change of display is highly recommended.

I know it's a "writers' museum" (notice the Queen's English use of apostrophe), and not a painters' nor visual artists' museum. But the lack of visual cues is really problematic for stupid tourists such as your's truly to find on a very tight, time constrained schedule.
With that bit of pedanticism out of the way, the service has got to be the worst in terms of lazy and rude receptionist I've seen my whole Ireland trip.
A biased transcription goes like this:
"Sorry, we're closed." (4:11pm)
"I was running late from a previous tour and the sign says last admission 4:15pm, but it's still 4:12pm." (4:12pm)
"No. We're closed early." (4:12pm)
"But there are still people here. I'll be quick. I just need a few photos for a friend back home." (4:13pm)
"No. You're not allowed to enter. You have to leave." (4:14pm)
All this, with still 1 minute before their official cutoff!
I get it lady, you want to go home on a Sunday afternoon. Maybe try not showing up at all in the first place instead of prompting negative reviews for your establishment?

I did not have the ability to view much of the Museum, even with arrival 45 minutes before closing. The staff manning the desk refused entry to join family already touring because the "last tour" had "started" (with audio not a person) minutes before (not noted in the tour book) and despite the museum being open for another 40 minutes. (Unlikely it takes more than 40 minutes to tour this small set of exhibits.) I am sure this is a small gem of a museum intended to communicate the rich history of Dublin writers, but keeping eager visitors out with irrational rules certainly does nothing to promote enjoyment of this history or additional museum visits. Not sure that is the intention.

I am a literature teacher and dragged my partner to come and look at this museum during our trip to Dublin and I have to say I was fairly unimpressed by the museum.
It was expensive for what it was (only an audio guide and some information centres) it needs to be modernised and taken over by someone with a creative flair and imagination to sell some of the world’s most brilliant writers.
The bookshop was shutting for lunch at 12.45 by the time we got there and we were not told that that was going to happen when we purchased our tickets.
A great shame if I’m honest.

This Museum is very close to O’Connell Street, 5 minutes by foot. It has two floors and there are many useful information and artifacts about writers born in Ireland.
Specifically, I liked the temporary exhibit in female writers.
The coffee shop is closed but the bookstore has many good titles.
The one annoying thing happened on my visit last Friday was the double charge for the entrance fees.
When I arrived, I tried to use my cash card to pay for the entrance, 7.50 Euros and the receptionist said the card did not work.
I then paid cash for the entrance and when I got home, I checked my card statement and found out the Museum did charge me.

The museum is ok. I feel a lot more could be done with it. Irish language authors are almost totally neglected. Jonathan Swift was one of the first authors presented but writing goes back much further. One staff member was very abrupt, I understand that at 16h45 on Saturday people want to get home but the museum is supposed to be open until 17h00 and politness goes a long way.
Overall it was ok. There were some authentic materials, letters, old books, that were nice to see, and the building is worth a visit. But if you already know a decent amount about Irish literature, and history you are unlikely to learn much.

I think considering all the wonderful writer's Dublin and Ireland has produced this could be presented to the public in a much better way. Technology now provides the opportunity to engage a wider audience in Irish literature. The museum would do well to take a leaf out of Epic's book.

Hello! Sorry so late -- as with the others, there are steps up the front, there should be access for a wheelchair, though. Once you are inside, things are very maneuverable for a chair and it is worth the effort. There is a lot of information that is interesting!
And a very nice person working at the front desk.

hello, is there an audio guide in Italian?
Written 21 October 2018
There doesn't seem to be an official website (the link goes to a section of a general Dublin tourism site). What is the admission charge?
Written 10 May 2015
Yes €7.50 is the adult price you get a audio guide which talks a lot
