GPO Witness History is a brand new permanent visitor attraction located in the historical and iconic GPO building on O'Connell Street, Dublin. This highly interactive and spectacular visitor attraction focuses on the 1916 rising, the aftermath of this rebellion and also how Ireland has developed since. Experience the events from an eyewitness perspective of active participants on both sides and bystanders caught in the middle. This engaging and interactive experience brings history to life though electronic touch screens, video, audio visual booths, sound and authentic artifacts - many previously unseen. Relax afterwards in the café and browse the gift shop which overlooks the courtyard. This iconic venue is also available for private functions and events. Opens from 10am Monday-Saturday & 12pm on Sunday. Our Last Entry is 4.30PM - The centre stays open until 5.30PM.

The General Post Office building in O'Connell is well worth visiting not only for its excellent interactive museum but because they have retained the old traditional furnishings and magnificent woodwork in the main postal chamber.

The story of 1916 & the struggle for independence decently told. Probably the only criticism I would have is of the multiple overlapping commentaries/soundtracks at high volume.

The GPO's central role in the April 1916 Rising is the jumping-off point for this well-organized multimedia exhibit, but the displays and videos offer a much deeper and more complex perspective on this pivotal chapter in Ireland's history. Well worth at least an hour, if...More

It’s not just stamps, letters and postal orders; this iconic post office on O’ Connell Street is intrinsically woven into the fabric of this republic. If it had ears it would have heard the bombs & bullets of the 1916 Irish uprising and the 1966...More

The GPO played a pivotal role in the 1916 rising. The film explains these events well and gives a real sense of how the events of that week played out and impacted the course of Irish history

Of Irish heritage, I was looking forward to seeing the site of the Easter 1916 Rising. Given the destruction of this building during the rising, we were impressed by its renovation, and moved by the exhibits.

We’d been in Dublin a few years ago but seem to have missed this at that time, unless it was set up for the centenary of the Easter Rising last year. It’s a good counterpoint to Kilmainham Goal and just as interesting. Particularly good overview...More

The GPO Witness exhibition is dominated by the events of Easter Week rising of 1916 and while the rebels were defeated it changed public opinion and eventually led to independence for 26 counties of Ireland in 1922. Won't go into details here as area quite...More
