Barnesmore Gap translated from Irish means the "big gap", and its situated in the Bluestack Mountains between Donegal town and Ballybofey. The Donegal railway used to run through here, connecting south and north Donegal. It's a beautiful drive, but can be treacherous in bad weather. Treat yourself to a pint or some grub after, in Biddy's on the Donegal town... More

We stopped at biddys pub right in middle of gap. Authentic irish pub with open fire drinks and snacks. If on that road do call in. We enjoyed very much

What a beautiful place to drive through. Currently unspoiled by much habitation. The mountains rise majestically on each side as one passes. The mist only adds to the mystery!

Outstanding scenery and a very good road - kept having to stop to take pictures but totally unimpressed by the amount of litter and detritous that was in and around the parking places. come on Donegal CC get something done about it .

A lovely pass to drive through with very impressive and majestic hills. They formed part of the Blue Stack Mountains

Barnesmore Gap and Lough Mourners close by are truly beautiful especially on a sunny day! Stop at Biddy's O'Barnes near to this to complete the whole experience for a good pint of Guiness and bowl of homemade barley soup, well worth a visit and all on or just off the main road through Donegal.

Yoiu pass through the gap on the way to Donegal from the north. Its worth absorbing the scenery, so travel slowly to appreciate the environment.

Not worth going specifically there, but it's a very nice stretch of road. The only downside it's quite busy and you may get stuck behind some truck which will spoil a view for you. Not that convenient to stop and not many places to do so.

Just a road in between 2 Mountains, nothing special to look at, unless you like goarse covered hills, and dont forget if you are stopping, take your umbrella, as for some reason, it always rains in the Gap, even if its sunny the other side, you will get rain in the Gap :)
