Iolaire sails twice daily from Iona at 9.45am or1.45pm OR from Fionnphort at 10am or 2pm.

The trip lasts 3 hours and you can get on or off at Fionnphort or Iona. The Iolaire is a brown wooden boat and returns to Fionnphort first at 1pm or 5pm and then to Iona 10 minutes later.

The sea journey takes 45 minutes and en route a wide variety of sea life may be observed. Once at Staffa a commentary is given and Fingal's Cave can be seen from the Iolaire. Passengers are landed weather permitted and given at lease one hour ashore which allows time to walk into Fingal's Cave or up the ladders to see the puffins when they are in season. There is always something exciting to see and the crew will be happy to welcome you on board the Iolaire.

Visiting Iona has always been a "bucket list" item for me and the reality of the trip was better than than the expectation. Added to the Iona trip was the boat trip to Staffa. we happened to be there when the Puffins were nesting and the visit was tremendous. Iona was like visiting a land between two worlds, spirit and... Staffa Tours left us in the lurch because they didn't ask if we were waiting for their tour although we were standing at the top of the pier. Luckily Tigh na Traigh took us to the cave where the MacDonalds and MacKinnons were purported to have hid Bonnie Prince Charlie as he fled Scotland after losing the battle against the... More

What a superb trip. The boat trip was spectacular with the Captain making time to speak to all the passengers giving fascinating insights to the history, geography and wildlife of the area. Fingal's cave, the inspiration for Mendelssohn's 'The Hebrides' Overture, is magnificent. Staffa itself offers great views and we were fortunate enough to see the famous puffins. I must... More

Thanks for your comments about Davie and the Staffa trip. The island is always exciting and rewarding no matter what time of year you go. There is always something different and interesting. I'm glad you had the confidence to go with your daughter in spite of not having money with you as it always takes time to get that organised... More

Not only is the island of Staffa spectacular, but the skill of the sailors in landing you there is admirable. Also great views of seals and seabirds on the way. Take something for seasickness, though, if you're susceptible to it.

Good advice in the late part of the year as the weather is always dodgy then and if there is a big swell on the water it can be a bit rumbly even although the day overhead is looking good. Usually if the boat lands sea sickness is not a problem for most people. I'm glad you enjoyed seeing the... More

What an amazing trip. We had good weather, but sunny or not the rock formations at Staffa including Fingal's cave are outstanding and a lot bigger than we expected from photos - each 'crystal' is about 1m in diameter. You get to walk all over the island and inside Fingal's Cave. The basalt crystal outcrops go across the whole island... More

Thanks for coming with Iolaire to Staffa and we are glad that you were impressed with the island and Fingal's Cave. It really has to be seen to be believed. You have also given good advice to other travellers. You were lucky with the weather. More

Superb afternoon out with a quality operator. We had been waiting all week for a trip which, due to the wind conditions, had been frustratingly unavailable but Carol had thoughtfully kept in touch by email and we were finally able to get out there. From the start at Fionnhport, the crew were friendly and professional with the Skipper greeting me... More

Davey and his crew are a gem! Warm, friendly, and full of interesting facts and stories about the islands, ecosystems, and history of the area. I can't wait for my next adventure with them.

A great trip out to Staffa with Dave and his crew. During the trip Dave comes round for a chat with everybody. Time is taken to stop and look at the wildlife on the way - this time of year it was common and grey seals and birdlife. The commentary was informative without being too much. Sadly, the sea was... The warm welcome when booking in a garden and when boarding the wooden boat next day were the dots of an i regarding my trip to Staffa. The skipper shared stories of land, sea and nature in a professional and personal way. I would jon in again.

Thanks for your kind comments, if the person you booked with was working in the garden, it was me, however if he was just admiring the view ( or watering his tomatoes) it would have been the Skipper himself. It was good that you enjoyed the day out on Iolaire and we will look forward to seeing you next time. More

Recommended to take this boat by our B&B host and wasn't disappointed. Took the 10am ferry on the wooden boat for a 3 hour trip with and hour on the boat each way and an hour on the Island of Staffa at £30 per adult. The boat crew were informative chatting to all the passengers with regular commentary especially as... More
