Watch out for the hard sell tactics
Tour starts off ok and then rapidly descends into a hard sell. The entire experience is designed to extract money in various ways. Complimentary massage is odd. Hard sell before going through the shop is unpleasant.

    Very good place for herbalists
Very friendly staff specially Jaya. Very insightful tour about plants and their aurvedic properties. There is no entrance fee and they give free massage. The shop was overpriced. Maybe due high quality? I don't know.

Dont get pressured into buying anything - quite an unpleasant con
Interesting tour round the spice and herb garden, but soon became apparent that this is a shoddy high pressure exercise to sell poorly packaged, very expensive, and unathenticated bottles of produce. Guide showed us through email supportive messages - but the most recent are from about 2012. I should have known better, but they put pressure on your better nature. The worst experience we had in a 2 week tour of Sri Lanka

Quiet and small location, friendly and well-informed guide. No pressure. Good fun. We had pulled into another option but had lots of coaches and lots of people and a queue.

This place was a wonderful little stop on our tour. We had an amazing and funny guide named Jaya that walked us around the garden telling us so many interesting things about the plants and herbs.

We should have read the reviews before stopping here as we too were subject to the very hard selling tactics. We have found that virtually everyone in Sri Lanka to be pleasant and trusting which we obviously thought would be the same here.
My advice is to avoid the place entirely as the proprietor is very skilled at selling products which are vastly overpriced.
If you do select anything he will expertly engage you in conversation distracting you from concentrating on how much you are actually spending.
I changed my mind with our products at the last minute when I blocked out his chatter and realised the cost. However checking with my bank the next day strangely the payment went through to my account. I emailed him and he replied with barefaced lies saying he didn’t know where that payment had come from and secondly his card machine was faulty.
Thanks to our bank and tour operator we got our money back a week later. I cannot state to highly that this is a place to avoid at all costs. Vastly overpriced goods with a skilful hard sell from the proprietor what more can I say?

Whilst the garden tour was enjoyable please please please do not fall for buying any products. Their business model is to lure and exploit tourists with insanely ridiculous prices. The whole customer journey has been very cunningly designed such that you trust them from the beginning (nice tour nice guide, nice massage) and then they lead you to buy the products (which you then feel you have an emotional connection for)…. I bought a £25 cream and many other items in extremely cheap plastic containers…no labels for ingredients…no credible stamping seal by any authority….these products aren’t vetted by any Ayurvedic doctors (even thought they implied they were!)

Basically we fell for the scam and bought many items without even checking the price (as we assumed they would be reasonable as they deceptively gained our trust) but the price of products are even more than boutique health and beauty products you’d buy in London or any other cosmopolitan city! Do not buy anything from this place they are not a trust worthy establishment and will cheat you!!! They are SCAM ARTISTS!! If you want to buy spices go to the local market, if you want to buy Ayurvedic medicines/creams go to an established Ayurvedic clinic/practice/resort

Had a fantastic experience at the spice garden! First we ate at the restaurant there & had a cold beer! Service & food was lovely! Then we had a tour around the spice garden which was really interesting! Got to see how each spice & herb could be used in cooking etc. We got some herbal tea & amazing back massages! Our tour guide Jayath was so friendly & has a great sense of humour! We purchased some oil that prevents mosquito bites in the shop. Overall so impressed our experience & would definitely recommend a visit 😊
