This is a busy spot with the walkers along the sea front but it could be doing with a clean up (dog walkers and leavers). The council needs to get its act together though and maintainit better. Ayr wants tourists but does nothing to merit it by their toilet charging though.

I took the train from Glasgow Central to Ayr and it took around 55 minutes £10.50 Adult off peak return The "Lang Scots Mile" was great for a 30 minute walk or longer ,It also takes about 10 minutes to wend one's way through Ayr town centre, a mix of the usual array of shops and eateries, then through an... Close to the centre of Ayr. Plenty of parking, cycle lanes and safe walking for families and dog owners. Plenty to do for the whole family. There are places to buy food and for kids, a play area. Long stretch of sandy beach to walk, or play on. You can walk along to the lighthouse jetty at the harbour. From... More

There is a lovely beach with nice promenade area, loads of benches and bins. Tons of free parking, a huge field to burn off steam when the tide is in and the beach is reduced to a narrow strip of sand. Although Ayr has some stunning houses in affluent areas, the town centre appears a little run down with many... More

A great, easy, flat walk with stunning views of Greenan, the Carrick Hills, Heads of Ayr and Arran. Information points along the way. Clean beach and a refreshing way to spend an afternoon.

We spent some time yesterday afternoon along with many other visitors strolling along the seafront at Ayr in glorious sunshine and it is only April. Great to breath in the refreshing sea air, watch families enjoying the beach and with some even out in the water, whilst we were taking in the scenic views across to the isle of Arran.

The beach area is great to let the kids run off their energy. The lang scots mile is a great walk with brilliant scenery as you go. Great to just take a leisurely stroll of if your feeling up to it a wee jog! Best of all it's free. Also at the Doonfoot bridge you can feed the ducks, goose... More

Ayr beach front is a well-kept area and the Scots mile walk, marked out with footprint signs each quarter mile, is a good flat walk along a concrete path with great view of the sea. You can also detour onto the beach which is also well-kept and generally clean. Great place for walking and blowing away the cobwebs.
