Popped to Machrie Moor Stone Circle just for a quick diversion. Took us an hour exactly to walk to the Stones, have a potter around and get back to the car. Easily signposted with no strenuous bits. They are quite impressive but nothing compared to the view off the top of any of Arran's Mountains. The path was muddy in... More

not so much of a challenge, but never the less great walk, standing stones are amazing, maybe not so good if the weather is bad

They are situated miles from anywhere of course and it took about 45 minutes to reach the last of them, but it was well worth it in the end. You should really try and visit these historical stones.

We done this walk the other day, there is a small car park at the beginning which is usually pretty empty, we had our one year old that walked quite a bit of it and loved walking through the field with the sheep, the stones themselves are very impressive and the silence there is amazing makes you contemplate why the... Very atmospheric and tranquil... It was like taking a walk back in time. We love a break in Arran and the many beautiful places to visit. Ideal get away to recharge the batteries.

Delightful walk from the Car Park to these stones. This does involve climbing over Stiles. The adjacent gates could be opened but some are somewhat intricately tied up. Described by a Native as their Stonehenge! Possibly a slight exaggeration?

Try and get to see the stone circle either as the sun comes up or better when the sun sets. There are amazing sunsets on the west of Arran when the sun sets over Argyll. So atmospheric and steeped in history. If there is One thing you must do on the island, this is it.

A short, reasonably flat 20 - 25 minute walk from the car park to the stone circles on Machrie moor. Great views across the central areas of Arran with the back drop of the mountains around Goatfell. A number of stone circles around the area to see and also individual standing stones. The most impressive are the 3 tall upright... More

I was not sure how long it would take to get to the stones but it took us about 25 minutes to get to the final set, walking at a god pace. There are a few sets of stones that you pass as you walk along the path and it only gets slightly boggy underfoot when you enter the moor.... More

need walking 20 minutes: stones coming out the ground, but few explanations on their origin: need better explanatory signs.
