We are a museum set in Cameron Square which is just off of the centre of Fort William High Street. We have eight rooms packed with fascinating objects, from treasure from a shipwrecked Spanish Armada galleon to the bagpipes played at Bannockburn in 1314. Whether its archaeology, natural history, Commando training and weaponry, Highland crofting life, costumes and charms, Victorian times, silver, coins and medals, or even the history of mountain rescue, it can all be found at the West Highland Museum.

This museum is run by volenteers and is free to enter. each room tells a different story starting with the Commando training and going through different stages in history. Well worth a visit and happy to leave a donation at the end.

I visited mainly an excuse to escape the cold so pleased that I did, the attendants were friendly, the contents very interesting and pertinent to the area. I would recommend a visit, and the entrance is free.

This MUST be the highlight of a visit to Fort William for anyone remotely interested in history - local or otherwise. A stunning collection of artifacts.

Admittedly, we only came in here because of the snow outside, but we were pleasantly surprised, a little bit of local history and some great displays! Kept us entertained for at least an hour! Staff were friendly as well.
