We are a museum set in Cameron Square which is just off of the centre of Fort William High Street. We have eight rooms packed with fascinating objects, from treasure from a shipwrecked Spanish Armada galleon to the bagpipes played at Bannockburn in 1314. Whether its archaeology, natural history, Commando training and weaponry, Highland crofting life, costumes and charms, Victorian times, silver, coins and medals, or even the history of mountain rescue, it can all be found at the West Highland Museum.

A small, but interesting museum. Upon arrival, we were greated by a friendly young man, who told us where we could find what. We were interested in the commando section - and learned a lot.

We had 45 minutes to fill and went in, not expecting much. It's a lovely little museum, though, and well worth a visit. It gives an overview of the region's cultural, political and natural history and the building itself is quite pretty as well.

We went in here for a wee look as the heavens just opened up and glad we did as it has many interesting artifacts on display and its free entry although there is a donation box. Loved the Marine exhibitions in the first room.

Delightful museum. Starts with very comprehensive and fascinating museum about the Commandos who trained here before helping to win WWII, and then is full of the 'real' artefacts of West Highland history, from prehistoric times through Bonnie Prince Charlie and all that. Lots of little...More
