Sorry I don't know very much about the Macphail name but I would recommend you visit the Highland Archive Centre in Inverness which has a Family History Centre that is very helpful with ancestry research.

Lots of great places to eat in Inverness - if you like a traditional pub atmosphere then I would recommend The Castle Tavern at the top of Castle Street.
