My husband, daughter and I traveled to Scotland in early October. We decided on a tour guide for the experience of not having to drive ourselves and have some general knowledge of where we were and the experience enough to point out what we would have missed! Well we didn't have to worry long because John made us comfortable in... More

John was an absolutely fantastic guide to the Scottish Highlands. He was great fun, incredibly informative and insightful. I was travelling with two friends and we booked the Isle of Skye Adventure tour (the Canadian gals who taught John about Caesars with the uniquely Canadian Clamato juice!) John picked us up in Inverness and we had a great day out... More

A few months ago I booked a honeymoon vacation to Inverness, as my husband really wanted to explore the whiskey region, and I'd never been to Scotland before. I wanted something like a tour which would give us the information we needed and would take us around the relevant sites. That's how I found John. I booked a day with... More

John MacDonald has taken one degree in Scots history and is working on his M.A., but he is anything but a fusty academic. Steering the van around the twisty curves of Loch Ness and the pass over to Eilean Donan, John keeps his passengers entertained even while pulling over now and then for photo ops of glorious scenery. He cuts... More

John MacDonald – Hebridean Explorer Extraordinaire – is an outstanding individual. We three Americans, each of whom claim some connection to certain Scottish clans, booked the Isle of Skye tour via John’s website. The professionalism and attention to detail found in his website translates directly to the experience he provides. John arrived at our hotel in Inverness on-time and greeted... More

We hired John for the trip to the northern Isle of Skye. John is knowledgeable, friendly, accommodating and organized. Although it is an 11 hour day trip, he planned an enjoyable day with frequent stops, and the time flew. It was a very good day of sightseeing and conversation on historical and modern culture. The weather was also gorgeous. We... More

This is our second tour with John and we ended the trip by planning our next tour with him. John is a charming and kind man. He is also a historian who can answer any of your questions about Scotish history. We peppered him with questions both trips and he answered even deeper than I would have expected, putting historical... More

My husband and I spent the day with John and thoroughly enjoyed every moment! We did an 11 hour tour and the time really did fly by. John is incredibly knowledgeable and went above and beyond to answer all of our questions. He was also on top of making sure we stayed on schedule and ahead of the larger tour... More
