The Battle of Culloden took place just outside Inverness and the site is now bisected by the viaduct taking the Highland Mainline from Inverness to Perth and beyond.

There are beautiful views as you cross the viaduct of the surrounding valley. Well worth checking out on your journey.

Worth seeing especially if the steam train passes

Part of our tour to see the Big Four. About 15 minutes walk from the car park to a viewing point. We chose not to go up the hillside adjacent to the car park as it was a murky day and apparently the views can be obscured. So we walked to the far end of the viaduct and clambered up the hill until we hoped was a good view. And sure enough it was and a great sight to see the Harry Potter steam train come thundering through. Have video at the ready if possible if not snap away. a glorious moment.

No signs for this; we found it on Google map and it was on the way to the Clava Cairns. We stopped in front of a gated driveway to take photos but if you continue on the road (using a map), you can drive under the Viaduct, park your car briefly and take photos from here. This is not a tourist site so there is no true parking but for 5 minutes, we took photos. Would have been awesome if we checked the train schedule earlier so we could take photos with the train on top. Otherwise, it's just a cool-looking bridge so skip it if you are not into photography or architecture.

What a structure ...

Sept 2021

Worth a detour on very narrow, minor roads if you're in the area. This impressive structure is apparently the highest, long such structure in the UK. Standing under the arches you feel insignificant.

Would be great to catch it as a steam train passes!

Impressive Viaduct that nobody seems to mention?

Visiting Clava Cairns we found this hidden gem of to our left as we drove into the cairns. This was quite impressive and and in my mind on a par with Glenfinnan and Ribblehead. A pleasant surprise and we had no idea it was about hands, maybe a missed trick here by the local tourist board.

Walked here from Clava Cairns as it's only round the corner. Really impressive and beautiful views all around it. Looks like it's just off a cycle route so I would imagine it's a nice cycle round there. Was quiet too at this time of year.

Awesome Sight

Visited when staying in Loch Ness we took a short drive to view this awesome structure. It’s not the one from Harry Potter that’s close to Fort William but this is pretty spectacular if you like taking photos. Not much else around just fields and country lanes. It’s also not far from the Culloden Battlefield visitor centre.

What a Sight

Only saw this from the air when flying out from Inverness but even from several thousand feet up in an aircraft you can't help but marvel at this wonderful structure that was also used in the Harry Potter films.

What moor do you want from a viaduct?

Well worth a visit if you are in the area. Impressive piece of Victorian architecture - still in use. Do visit the nearby stone circles at Clava Cairns.
