A lovely place to stop and see how the Queen Mum spent her downtime in the summers. Not grand, but very homey and personal. Loads of pictures and mementos of the royal family around. Tours are mandatory - you cannot visit on your own- but...More

We were fortunate to have chosen a sunny warm day to visit this beautiful place and so could sit in the sun in the walled garden. The house and its guides were well worth the £11.50 entrance cost and this would be a good visit...More

A very interesting place to visit. The guide was excellent and gave us an insight into the real daily life of the Queen Mother. The Castle (more a large home) is still used by Charles. Inside are all the little things that made it a...More

A captivating tour of an hour's duration is the highlight of the visit. There is also a very good tea room, fairly small gardens and a petting farm. Everything was well maintained and the staff were great. A highly recommended visit from our NC500 tour.

The location is fantastic with open views to the Orkney Islands and the Pentland Firth. No wonder the Queen Mother found this a great retreat after the sudden death of her husband George VI. The visitor centre and restaurant are very nice. The guided tour...More

The gardens were extremely disappointing, weedy, roses in need of pruning dead wood. Patchy and probably in need of serious restoration. They bore no resemblance to pictures dotted around of the Queen Mother in a delightful flowery garden with full borders. The house guide was...More
