About
The Cairngorm Mountain Resort is situated on Britain’s 6th highest mountain in the Cairngorms National Park. Enjoy a trip on Scotland’s only funicular railway to the highest restaurant in the UK reaching the Ptarmigan building at over 1,097m. During the summer months any visitors who take the train are not permitted to exit the top station in keeping with the Cairngorm Conservation Plan. It is a place of outstanding natural beauty. In winter the resort is a haven for Snowsports. The Cairngorm Mountain gets the most reliable snow in Scotland and provides plenty of terrain for all levels. Whether you are a beginner or are looking for something more extreme, you are sure to have a great day out. In Summer, guests can enjoy activities such as guided walks or simply enjoy the views from 635m (Car Park Level). Our Adventure Play & Tubing Park is a must do activity with incredible views . Visit our café which is open all year round. Our new mountain biking trails are fully open.

    An Expensive Drink
Understand that the Funicular Railway has recently re-opened - I went on the group rate of £14 which others in the party considered expensive. The ride up only takes 7/8 minutes and at the top you enter a complex, which comprises a shop, restaurant, gin bar and viewing platform. It was a sunny day but view was still a bit misty from the viewing platform. I would guess that you would get a fantastic view, in the winter with the snow covered peaks. As others have said you can't get out onto the mountain - I don't think this message is clearly articulated, although I understand the rationale. A Gin and Tonic was £7 which is broadly similar to London prices. Nice to sit and ponder the view with a G&T in hand but combining that with the cost of the Funicular, makes it an expensive drink. Having done the Nevis Gondolas, I would recommend that as trip as at least you get out in the air and stretch legs. A very expensive option for families and sadly I think its a one off trip for most.
We appreciate your feedback and comments. The group rate is a highly discounted rate and we apologise that it did not meet with your expectations in terms of value for money however we are offering a unique experience on the funicular railway. All customers are advised before they purchase their tickets that under the Cairngorm Conservation Plan and the terms and conditions of the ticket for the train there is no outside access permitted except on our outdoor viewing terrace. The weather is out with our control with some days offering different views with a natural variation to enjoy but hopefully always a unique one. Kind Regards The CM Team

    Costly but Worthwhile!
The Cairngorms have always had a special place in my heart, we had been planning this trip for a while and read ahead on the pricing and policy once up the mountain. I do find the reduced rate of £17 quite costly, nevermind the full rate once the maintenance has been completed. I understand they have had set backs on reopening the railway and getting it back up to spec but that shouldn't be charged back to tourists and skiers. They have definitely modernised the whole experience with a refurbished carpark/ticket barrier system, modernised restaurant and viewing terrace at the top with a theatre experience all about the Cairngorms. I couldn't believe the views as you travel up/down the mountain, definitely worth a picture or two! Staff were really friendly at the base station and on the train but found the restaurant staff at the top quite unfriendly which let down the experience slightly. I would have expected more for the £17 whether it include a coffee/cake at the top or a short tour into the mountain range but I suppose with current inflation and the location it will make its money. All in all it was great to finally get on the funicular railway and have lunch at the top of the mountain although the cafe is quite costly and the selection of sandwiches are a bit poor if you are just wanting a bite to eat rather than a hot meal.
Dear Reviewer Many thanks for taking the time to review us and great to hear that you had a positive and enjoyable visit. As you say the views are amazing giving one an unique experience. I do note your comment re the restaurant and will pass this to the appropriate department. With kind regards The CM Team

    Wonderful Views.
We had a quick lunch at the Cairngorm Cafe, and it was lovely. We had sandwiches and tea and sat out enjoying the fabulous sunshine and the incredible views. We didn't have time to take the funicular nor did we have time to take a walk on the mountain (unlike our last visit when we spent a lovely afternoon walking). Its a wonderful place to visit and far more enjoyable, I think, than Aviemore.
Hello Many thanks for your review and delighted to hear that you had a enjoyable visit and yes the views are even better when the sun is shining. We look forward to welcoming you again in the future. With kind regards The CM Team

    Great Scenery
Great experience climbing the mountain, despite it being foggy, rainy and very steg gusts. Not well marked but the path is trodden in, and it's nice to see they have preserved the natural habitat as much as they can. The views were amazing of what we did see but the weather was very poor so it didn't last long. We got the train back down which was also a nice experience, they stopped when they saw reindeer too so we could watch them. Only downside was when we went to the ranger base to ask about walk trails, he was very dismissive and (it seemed) judged us by looking - he tried to put us off walking it as he felt it was too hard for us. As a frequent mountain climber it was moderate in difficulty, but I wouldn't say hard at all.
Hello Many thanks for reviewing us here at Cairngorm Mountain. We are very pleased to hear about your positive experience and seeing the Reindeer is always a great bonus and we are delighted you got to see them. I am sorry to hear about your negative experience at the ranger base this is very unusual anyway I hope you will visit us again in the future. With kind regards The CM Team

    Good but quite expensive.
We visited the Funicular Railway and cafe by chance this week after we had finished another activity in the area. The facilities seem new and there were some great views from the top - despite some heavy rain. It was however quite expensive on the train and in the cafe, and we had no change of £100 after we had been to the gift shop for a couple of small gifts too.
Many thanks for your review and delighted to hear you were lucky with the views despite the weather. We are offering a unique and special experience with the mountain railway which is reflected in the price but still trying to remain competitive. We look forward to welcoming you again. With kind regards The CM Team

    Great views
The funicular railway makes the mountain accessible to all with stunning views on a clear day. We had a lovely coffee at the cafe at the top and all the staff we spoke to were friendly and helpful. There is a great mountain biking track and tubing for those who are more adventurous. Getting out of the car park takes a while as payment is at the single exit barrier and takes time to work out.
Hi JayC7271 Thank you for taking the time to review your visit and we are delighted that you experienced the stunning views and the staff were friendly and helpful. We are very excited with our new Bike Park which has been very popular! We are aware of the car park issues and now have a new system on order to alleviate this problem in the meantime we are monitoring the exit line on a daily basis. With kind regards The CM Team

    Cairngorm guided summit walk
Took the train to the top station and then got a guided tour of the summit. So much to see which normally is inaccessible for train passengers. Our guide was knowledgeable, passionate and very engaging. Recommend to anyone considering a visit.

    Amazing Views
It was a fantastic experience for all the family, easy to book and offered a wide variety of other activities to do so could easily spend the full day there. The views were amazing from the top (we were very lucky with the weather!). It is a little bit expensive but we were aware of that before going and felt it was an experience that we didn’t want to miss out!! Glad we did it and would defo do it again.

Arrange your bank loan before you head up for lunch
After paying £22 for the 10 minute ride to the top I was shocked at the cafe prices. £11 for a jacket potato. £6.50 for a Sandwich. We paid £32 for 2 sandwiches, 2 coffees, 2 crisps and 2 cakes. These are what I’d expect to pay for in London. I’m not poor, just don’t like being ripped off.
Hi We are sorry to hear that you found your experience expensive. We do have the daily logistics of moving food and stock up the mountain which does reflect in our pricing however we are striving to remain competitive. The mountain railway is a totally unique experience and offers everyone a chance to experience the views from the mountain. We do hope you may visit us again in the future With Kind regards The CM Team

A must visit, moderate trails, stunning views
Me and my partner went there by coach 2 times while we stayed near Inverness , there are many different trails, we chose one which goes to the cafe on the top, it's about 40 minutes to climb up, sometimes it's a bit hard but manageable. Once you are near to summit there's a very nice cafe where you can sit and have lunch ( good prices) i have to admit and very tasty soups. Spent roughly half an hour in the cafe, then continued to summing up which took just about 12 minutes. The weather was a bit rainy so could not see anything from the top, then we walked down at opposite side of the hill which was a circular way to go back anyway. OMG the views were stunning we spent there an hour, the rain stopped , took so many pictures. The way down the hill is not pleasant going up was easier for me. In total this trail would take about two hours. But there are so many, I could spend discovering these mountains for days. The bus takes you to and from aviemore under 20 minutes to Cairngorm car park. Must visit when you are in Scotland
Hi there Many thanks for taking time to submit your review and we are delighted to hear that you had a lovely experience. The views in all kinds of weather are amazing and we hope that you will be able to visit us again to explore further. With kind regards The CM Team

I did the guided walk and had a great time. (Sorry I didn’t catch the name of the warden). The walk was very informative and it was great to get out on a walk which wasn’t too strenuous and to find out something about the geography, geology and botany of the mountains. It was so much better than just taking a picture as you whizz by in the car and I would thoroughly recommend this to future travellers. The packed lunch was just right for me too.

My partner and I had the best time practicing snowboarding on the learners slope. We spent three days there during our week long stay in Aviemore. All staff we met at the ticket office, gear hire and cafe were incredibly kind, welcoming and well informed. We would like to particularly thank Graham and Mark who made our experience even better. They were so friendly, and we had such wonderful conversations with them during our time on the mountain. Although the snow wasn't the best is usually is for March with a warmer climate, the snow machines on the beginners slope helped us make the most of the time we had. We miss it so much, can't wait to come back and have a go on the slopes next time!

We had the most amazing time a big group of us and it even started snowing which made it even better , all the kids and adults didn't stop laughing and smiling the whole time , I do have to say a big shout out to the two lads who were pushing us down they made the whole experience even better smiling laughing and amazing to be around , the only down fall is that the cafe is very expensive so won't be using that again but the service at the ticket desk and the lads at the slide 10/10 amazing time great experience and will be defo coming back .

Hi Alexwalsh82 Thank you so much for your amazing review. We are delighted that you all had a wonderful time on the tubing slide with us - the two lads are bigger "kids" than the rest of us!! I do not like how Cairngorm Mountain uses the term "magic carpet" when referring to their snow surface conveyor lift. It's clearly not a Magic Carpet® Lift which is a copyright name. Please remove all wording "magic carpet" from your literature, press releases, and website.

I’ve been up Cairn Gorm a number of times but this was my first visit to the cafe, and it was fab. Great snacks and the tea and coffee was to die for (maybe related to it being the end of our hike)! The staff were very friendly and the views from the cafe are amazing!
