Steam through the stunning Scottish Highlands in style. Our steam engines take you on a very special trip through the Cairngorms National Park as you travel between Aviemore, Boat of Garten and Broomhill. Why not make your trip extra special with one of our dining on board options: Light Lunch offers soup, sandwiches, tea and coffee; Afternoon Tea has some sandwiches, scones with jam and cream followed by some delicious cakes; or enjoy a full three course Sunday Lunch or Dinner. Why not upgrade to First Class to enjoy a meal in one of our compartments, finely decorated in it's own tartan, with vintage British Rail mirrors and luggage racks inside.Split your trip up with a visit to Boat of Garten to explore some fantastic walk trails or bring your bike on board to explore the great cycle routes in the area. See if you can beat the train back from Broomhill on your bike!We are also taking part in the Great Railway Treasure Hunt 2013, so there's plenty for the kids to do on the trip!

We had a great time on the Easter special this morning. We had our 5 grandchildren, ages ranging from 3 years to 10 years. There was loads of excitement with the circus school on the platform at Aviemore, balloon animals, real live small animals on the train itself, colouring in sheets and crayons. The staff were wonderfully patient with the... More

I travelled on the railway on 4 March 2016. The first train of the day was diesel hauled as the steam engine was not yet ready. I was advised of this before booking, and throughout the staff explained the reasons for this and offered profuse apologies. Other journeys were steam hauled and provided a wonderful experience, and plenty of heat!... More

We had been really looking forward to our steam train trip through the cairngorms in a first class carriage with a light lunch. It was such a disappointment. The carriage was nothing like the one in the advertising photos and there was nothing first class about it and it was not the cleanest. The food was sadly very underwhelming. I... More

I had booked a Mother's Day 3 course lunch for £77 for my mother and myself. I was expecting a lovely ride on the steam train through the Cairngorms, snowy hills and beautiful scenery. Little did I know it would be scenery of waste land, backs of houses and farm yards. We set off from aviemore to boat of garten... More

Took a ride from Boat of Garten to Aviemore on a beautiful day in late spring. Although a little expensive, the staff are lovely, the views are exquisite and the trip was a great experience! I just wish the journey was longer! Happy travelling!

The Strathspey Railway was recommended to us by our B&B as a morning activity. We bought our tickets to Boat of Garten at the lovely little station window in Aviemore; there was a guard dressed in railway clothing (complete with cap!) who showed us to the carriage. Our vintage diesel service took us up past stunning views of the Cairngorms... More

Had a ride on this, it was mainly a one way journey. Train is old fashioned and as a steam train goes fairly slowly. Got on at aviemore, went to the bottom of the line, then back to the next stop. Good scenery and lots of walks from the stops.
