Steam through the stunning Scottish Highlands in style. Our steam engines take you on a very special trip through the Cairngorms National Park as you travel between Aviemore, Boat of Garten and Broomhill. Why not make your trip extra special with one of our dining on board options: Light Lunch offers soup, sandwiches, tea and coffee; Afternoon Tea has some sandwiches, scones with jam and cream followed by some delicious cakes; or enjoy a full three course Sunday Lunch or Dinner. Why not upgrade to First Class to enjoy a meal in one of our compartments, finely decorated in it's own tartan, with vintage British Rail mirrors and luggage racks inside.Split your trip up with a visit to Boat of Garten to explore some fantastic walk trails or bring your bike on board to explore the great cycle routes in the area. See if you can beat the train back from Broomhill on your bike!We are also taking part in the Great Railway Treasure Hunt 2013, so there's plenty for the kids to do on the trip!

We went on the steam train and afternoon tea experience for my cousin's birthday. Wonderful scenic journey. Really friendly staff. Lovely filling afternoon tea. Journey goes from aviemore to broomhill and back. We had prosecco on our return journey. It was a great journey for kids too.

We opted for the pre-booked Sunday lunch on the Strathspey Steam Railway. One of our party has mobility issues and had no problem getting on and off the train. The 3 options for starter / main and dessert ensured that there was something to cater for all tastes. The food was well prepared, tasty and delivered hot to the table.... More

We all enjoyed this day out so much! The old stations are absolutely beautiful and the scenery is lovely. All the volunteers are really knowledgable and helpful and it's an absolute joy to ride on a steam train! We got off at boat garton where we had a look round and pub lunch. Thumbs up.

Having visited both Boat of Garten and Aviemore on many occasions we have visited the steam railway before. This tine, however, we were staying a little further up the line so got on at Broomhill and got a return ticket to Aviemore where we had lunch (see separate review of Mambos). The journey is very relaxing and our 2 dogs... More

Fantastic steam train journey. Great to get up close and see such incredible and nostalgic machines. And the Beautiful Landscape is a bonus too. 😀 Don't forget your camera!

Having family to stay gives one the excuse to try things that are virtually on our doorstep, and none of us were disappointed. The staff at the station and on the train couldn't have been more helpful and the experience was one I can happily recommend- we did the Aviemore to Broomhill return and next time will do the same... Started with acquainting ourselves to the squeaky clean British Rail black steam engine with glistening brass rails as it made its way to the Aviemore dedicated Platform no 3 , followed by Scottish pipe music on the platform to greet the passengers and flag off the StrathSpey Railway dinner journey (we were told that the piper also played for a... Haven't been here for many years and the extension to Broomhill is now open and more besides. Came up on Scotrail and had to watch out because train times on both lines are quite close. The carriages are in very good condition and many are set aside for lunch, afternoon tea, etc. The restaurant car staff are very attentive -... More
