I've just completed a 4 day Winter Skills Course with Cairngorm Adventure Guides. Liam was very flexible in making my booking as it was last minute. Both Ross and Rachael were fantastic guides who were very approachable and made the course a very enjoyable experience. Would highly recommend anyone who is looking to brush up on their winter skills to... More

My brother and I booked this over Christmas, I was booked for 2 days and my brother stayed for 3. Right from the start the communication from CAG was brilliant, keeping us in the loop with everything and making sure we were prepped and equipped for the trip. When we arrived (in slight disarray, owing to some car issues) we... More

Having had my original winter skills course cancelled with a different company, Liam of Cairngorm Adventure guides kindly placed me onto their women only winter skills course the day before this was due to run back in January. I hadn't set out to attend a ladies version of the course but was really happy with my experiences and actually think... More

Just done my first winter skills course (3 days) and it was fantastic. Weather was a challenge but this did not prevent any of us achieving what we wanted to. Thanks to Ross who was an excellent instructor. I would strongly recommend Liam and his team at Cairngorm Adventure Guides to anyone who wishes to gain knowledge or simply brush... More

Great day out, learned a lot about winter walking; good footing, crampons, ice axe, avalanche awareness and mountain safety. Liam is a great instructor and would highly recommend to anyone who wishes to continue their hill walking throughout winter.

A great week in the Cairngorms learning the key skills required for heading out to the mountains in winter. Plenty of time for sliding about in the snow and practicing the use of crampons and ice axe. Plus on a more sensible note, vital navigation skills, avalanche awareness and what to do if it all goes a bit pear shaped.... More

Just completed my third course with these guys and as always the course content, service received and quality of training was exceptional. Both Liam, and latterly Graeme, have a method of delivery that treads a well balanced line between engagement, constructive feedback, a gentle kick up the backside when needed and loads of encouragement and patience. I've just completed a... More

Liam and the team at Cairngorm Adventure Guides offer outstanding, and in my opinion essential winter skills training for anyone thinking about venturing into the Scottish mountains in winter. All the instructors were extremely professional and experienced and shared their knowledge freely and patiently. While highlighting the risks, their goal was very much not to scare anyone off, but to... More

We had wildly fluctuating weather with two cold days where we practised a variety of skills including ice axe arrests, using crampons and cutting steps, a windy day up Cairngorm and two beautiful sunny days where the views were outstanding. Liam was very attentive to our needs and was a really well informed and helpful guide. I'd really recommend the... More

Having had some experience of climbing in the Alps and Nepal, I booked onto this course hoping to improve my winter skills and technical knowledge. The course exceeded my expectations, not least because of the coaching style of our instructor Graeme. Of note was his ability to determine quickly our skill levels, adapting the course throughout the week to make... More
