Enjoyed the gig but security staff were horrible. Making you feel bad for dancing upstairs and my mum asked to go downstairs at one point so she could dance and was told no. She staying upstairs quite happy but security made everyone feel very uncomfortable after that, constantly walking right up behind us and then standing right behind us staring and talking to colleague about “trying again and they are getting chucked out the door” Then even following my mum to the toilet as it was heading to the stairs.

Last night, I went to see The Mavericks at the Old Fruitmarket. Before I begin - let me make it perfectly clear, this is purely a review of the venue, not the band. The Mavericks are my all time favourite band, and were brilliant as always!

Unfortunately, the brilliant performance was destroyed by the atrocious sound control! The levels were all over the place, could hardly hear the vocals for most of the concert, and most of the time, you could hardly hear the individual instruments, kept getting feedback from the microphone. Even when Raul (lead singer) did a couple of acoustic tracks (just Raul and his guitar), the sound engineer still managed to get feedback. The entire band were evidently frustrated with the amateur sound engineer, as they all had to motion to him to get their volumes adjusted. The sound engineer should have been able to resolve any issues without the band needed to keep asking him to sort the sound!

Even at the end of the concert, the exit music (a track from the bands latest album) was muffled and hard to hear properly.

I think the venue needs to either get a new sound system, or better still - sack your sound engineer, and get someone capable of mixing a live band so the band and audience can the music properly!

I am a big fan of live music, and have seen lots of bands over the years, and have seen the Mavericks so many times I've lost count, so I can safely say that this is the WORST sound I have ever heard at a concert. If any artists I like are ever playing here again, I think I'll probably give it a miss and wait for a better venue with better sound engineers!

Having said all of this, the venue looks lovely and vintage / retro with old shop signs up on the walls and good lighting, creating a great visual experience. Unfortunately, concerts require the sound to be vastly improved!

A beautiful building. I didn’t know you could have booked seats as my Mum struggled to stand all night.

Being wee is a hinderance when your at a concert. It’s a real struggle to see the stage. Sometimes I wish the tall folk would be considerate and stand behind us wee folk, especially if you are over 6ft.

I would just like to take this space to highlight the amazing staff at the Fruit Market. Unfortunately I do not know their names but would like to highlight them for their sensitive and professional approach. My son had taken ill earlier that evening but had been so looking forward to attending The Divine Comedy concert that was on that night. We were very late turning up at the door but the staff could not have been more helpful and kind. They allowed him access to the concert and found a chair for him. It absolutely meant so much to him as he had been looking forward to this for so long. The venue itself is amazing and he enjoyed the concert but it would not have been possible without the help of the staff. Thank you so much.

First time at this music venue.... enjoyed the setting.. sound quality was good.. bar in the hall and in the entrance area to the City Halls.
Need to visit with the floor without seats to see what that’s like.
Plenty of pubs/restaurants nearby.

what a revitalisation of an auld Glesca building. the Wet Wet Wet concert was like a home coming for the band(minus Marti Pellow). The new stand in front man, Kevin Simms, was an able substitute and really got the audience rocking, but then again, Glesca(forgetting that they are Bankies), is where they're from. The whole area, surrounding, of the Merchant City is a buzz
