    A vision made real
This house has to be seen to be believed. From drawings submitted for a competition, to the vision of Graham Roxburgh we are privileged to see this beautiful house brought to life. Now used as a wedding venue and with artists' spaces and a cafe, even if the house is not open there is still lots to see. If you want to visit the interior of the house, check online first to make sure it is not closed for private events.
Many thanks for your comments Mary, its wonderful to hear that you enjoyed visiting the House - thank you for your comments! We definitely advise checking the opening times to anyone coming along.

Thanks for a making our Golden Wedding Anniversary a day to remember.
Arranged lunch for 27 guests inc 4 children for our Golden Wedding Anniversary . Prior discussion with Venue as to our requirements. We were able to put up decorations the evening before and had final discussion with Sarah, the Cafe Manager re table settings, drinks reception and timings. Venue, Food and Service was of a very high standard. Staff were efficient and smiling throughout. Had photographer for family shots outside and then throughout the drinks reception. Would highly recommend House for an Art Lover. Special thanks to Sarah who was so very professional and helpful throughout.
Thank you so much for sharing your kind words with us Bill, I'm delighted to hear you felt so well looked after by Sarah and the rest of the team! We look forward to hopefully seeing you again soon!

A.semi dog friendly iconic example.of Macintosh Architecture.
This is, amazingly, a newish house built to Macintosh's design. The details are nevertheless immaculately crafted and iconically Macintosh. Good signage and informative audio guide are helpfully explanatory. There is a cafe that was crowded ( obviously a place to go). We had cakes and tea- delicious and reasonable, but we had to be outside on the terrace because of the dog. This is pleasant place but needs the weather to play ball. We did find (as we left) that there was a dog friendly cafe on the other side of the carpark which is part of a hospice and welcomes visitors. The house and the hospice are set in parkland so plenty of places to walk the dog.
Thank you for sharing your feedback Richard. We are delighted that you enjoyed your visit to House for an Art Lover and the Art Lover's Café. Our Health & Safety regulations do not permit dogs inside but we love welcoming furry visitors to the café terrace. We do hope we can welcome you back soon.

    Very, very Special
House for an Art Lover is an exceptional wedding venue. A beautiful canvas on which you can paint your special day. The staff are helpful, professional, calm, efficient and kind. The food (quality and quantity) is excellent and was served by a delightful team. We were very fortunate to be able to use the best florist in the UK (Simon Lycett) and an exceptional photographer (Simon Lees) which made the venue look incredible and be captured thus on film. Looking back while it is fresh in our memory, we would not change one minute of our day. The only thing to watch is that on a Rangers home match day, the carpark becomes quite busy so access can be tricky - but definitely only a minor niggle. We would highly recommend HFAAL for a charming, intimate, and beautiful ceremony.
Thank you so much for your kind words Malcolm, they mean a lot to us - we're delighted that your big day went so well! It was our pleasure looking after you both and we hope to see you back soon!

    Beautiful House
Beautiful Charles Rennie Mackintosh house. Such a nice experience to wander through the different rooms. The house was being set out for a wedding the day we visited which showed a much different layout. Well worth a visit.
Thank you for visiting Gordon, we are happy to hear that you enjoyed the House.

    Celebration of their love
Worth the short trip outside of the city centre; the easiest way to reach is by bus. It built in a park after design sketches made by Mackintosh and his wife for an international competition in 1902; the remarkable story of how these sketches were turned into a building is well explained in the audiotour included in the entrance price. The interior celebrates the love of the newly weds (it is still used for weddings, so closed sometimes, check the website). There is a wonderful contrast between the dark entrance hall and dinner room and the light music room, with the unique style of the Mackintoshes: a wall onto a terrace dissolving in light by the many windows, the sweeping vertical lines, and also the stained glass and gesso panels, beautifully reconstructed (no originals).Surrounded by a small park, with a walled garden and art centre with exhibition space. It has a café and small shop.
Thank you for your comments Steven, we are delighted to hear that you are enjoyed your visit to the House and very much appreciate your recommendation!

    A Wonderful Wedding
My wife and I got married at this venue on the 14th of September 2023. I can't say enough how amazing the day was, not a single thing went wrong and the staff were so happy and helpful. The whole way through the planning process from the start of 2022, Emily and then Bridget have been on hand to guide us through the process. They have been so quick at responding to any questions we had and they really made us feel at ease every step of the way. They set out a timeline so you know what will happen and when it will happen and we felt assured the entire time. On the day itself the entire staff team were incredible. Small touches such as a free drink for myself and the grooms party was a lovely touch, Amanda the MC was so helpful and helped me feel at ease both on the day and when we met her a few days before. Amanda, and then later he colleague Farooq, helped the day run smoothly and kept things going and did their jobs so professionally. It was really nice that after the ceremony my wife and I got five minutes to have a drink and a canape before the photos as by the time we came back they were all gone. The food was delicious and went down well with the majority of people. It was a fully vegan wedding and the chef was happy to take on some of our suggestions in the build up to the day. Again the Mc's did an amazing job at night and out evening guests felt welcome to the wedding. Farooq was with us until the very end and was really patient when we were still running about trying to get stuff after 1 AM and our taxi was waiting, he also helped us out to the car. All of our external supplies were amazing too. Caroline Lambie the humanist, Emma Donaldson Photographer, Chris Connelly the Pianist, Christopher Kelly the videographer, Joe and Steph from Bygone photo booth, Mamas Wee Bakery for the cake, The Jiggers who were out Ceilidh band, our florist 'Flowers by Lilly' and Go2eventhire for the games setup. We had the most amazing day and would definitely recommend thie house to other couples looking for a wedding venue.
Hi Daniel, Congratulations again to you both and thank you for choosing House for an Art Lover for your big day! It was our pleasure looking after you, Jennifer and your lovely guests - we are absolutely delighted to have been able to give you both exactly the day you wished for. Thank you so much for sharing your kind feedback, I will make sure to pass it on to Bridget and the rest of the team here. Best wishes for married life from the entire Team HFAAL!

    Our wonderful wedding day!
We had our wedding day and reception at the House for an Art Lover on 28th October and it was just the most perfect day. We were so well looked after by Bridget our wedding planner and Amanda our master of ceremonies. All the staff at the house for an art lover were tremendous and they couldn’t have done enough for us in preparation for the day and on our special day. Thinking of getting married? We would highly recommend this wonderful venue. It was just fabulous from beginning to end. Thanks so much. Mark and Andrea ❤️x

    Our wedding
We got married at House for an Art Lover and it was perfect. Bridget and the wedding team were very organised and everything went smoothly on the day. We had a small wedding (43 guests) and the venue didn't feel half emtpy. The food was lovely and our guests really enjoyed it. We had some lovely photos in the grounds and around the house, too. All in all I would highly recommend the house for a wedding venue!

    A wonderful, wonderful day.
Booked a room for my wife's 80th birthday party. The preparation and attention to detail beforehand by the events team were second to none. The food was absolutely wonderful, and nothing was too much trouble for the staff who were both discrete and attentive. The room had been laid out beautifully, and everyone in our party of 20 was very complimentary on every aspect of their experience. We have the most lovely memories of our day. A very sincere thank you to all staff involved. I would have no hesitation in recommending this venue.

I had the unfortunate experience of attending the funeral of a friend at the House. It was handled superbly – lovely space (View) with very attentive staff and excellent food.

I generally use it to take my mum out for lunch and always enjoy it, but this was a different experience – plus plenty of car parking spaces.

Lovely setting but very disappointed with management! Had Mother's funeral here, no one was present to greet the family, no table reserved for us! Saw guests coming from back of room with soup, sandwiches etc. Family wasn't informed that buffet was opened. People weren't told they could purchases drinks after initial drinks courtesy of family. Food was nice but it would have been wonderful to have someone to organise things better, basically we were left to find out wat around! Really disappointed.😪

Given the nature of your event, we are disappointed about your feedback. Unfortunately, some of it is questionable, and we won't challenge it too much. For example, guests not knowing they could purchase a drink— our bar is clearly visible and accessible with staff members on hand to answer any questions, so we’re surprised to hear about the confusion. We regret that your experience did not meet your expectations, particularly regarding communication during such a sensitive event. It is our aim to provide comfort and support to our guests on all occasions and we apologise if we fell short on this occasion. It would have been nice if you had contacted us directly with your feedback or mentioned your concerns to the staff looking after you on the day; it’s a shame you took it to TripAdvisor instead.

This is the fifth time I have had the pleasure of hosting a private event at the House for an Art Lover.

This venue for us, is without a doubt, ideal. "The View" room is our go-to and never fails to impress. True to its name, with a beautiful outlook, complemented by the cozy couches and a spacious oval table, comfortably accommodates 20 guests.

A very relaxed atmosphere, our guests never felt rushed. The staff (including Gillian, Melissa and Rowan) were lovely - friendly and attentive. The food was absolutely delicious and having pre-ordered our menu selection and arranged a table plan, every guest received their desired meal promptly and accurately.

I dealt with Kate in the Events team prior to our visit, she made life so much easier, nothing was too much trouble and the whole process was seamless and personal. I would highly recommend this venue for business or a private celebration.

We held our wedding reception in May 2023, and all I can say is WOW! We had a fantastic day from start to finish.

The team, food, and venue were excellent, and due to the nature of our guests, a lot were travelling from London and abroad. They were blown away by such a unique venue and great location. Our photos and video look excellent.

We were slightly concerned about the fact they don’t have rooms, but there was no need to worry as we got ready in a lounge upstairs (again, very well done with mirrors, good lighting and comfortable seating); we had bacon rolls and pastries etc and were very well looked after by Fiona. Our guests booked local and West End accommodations and some used taxis and cars, which worked well.

Downstairs works well and gives everyone a completely different experience!

The day was fantastic, and all my family and friends loved it – I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend five stars!

We recently got married at House for an Art Lover and the experience overall was excellent. There were very minor communication issues at some points throughout as we booked so far in advance that certain members of staff we initially liaised with were no longer employed there. The rest of the experience was fantastic.

The costs involved were very reasonable considering what you get: a very generous drinks package, excellent food and an absolutely beautifully decorated venue. At first we were a bit iffy about the dancefloor but it was suprisingly charming on the day.

We had a slight disaster with the kilt hires and Amber was eager to help out by loaning us some of the purple staff ties to use for the ushers in lieu of the missing green tie from our hire as they fit in with the colour scheme. The bride didn't even notice!

Bridget and Farooq were excellent also, and were more than happy to make various accomodations for guests that we feel were above and beyond what was required. We had a few fussy eaters who weren't keen on the starter and they were more than happy to let them pick and choose between the regular and vegetarian menus. They also bought in non-alcoholic Prosecco for our pregnant guests (including the Bride)! Bridget was also absolutely fine with some last minute changes and assured us that we weren't being unreasonable - she was very friendly throughout. Farooq and Amber also gave us a hand with moving the flowers into the venue as the Bride arranged the flowers herself. Farooq also, for ease, stored these until the next day for us to pick up and even gave us a hand with them back to our car.

With regards to liaising with the various vendors and suppliers, this was all done behind the scenes with minimal input from us which was really nice as everything was done for us so we could focus on enjoying the day, rather than stressing about timings etc.

We were also reasonably difficult with our favours as some guests got different things - these were all laid out perfectly and in the correct places. Additional stationery was printed on request with no issues whatsoever. They even assembled our jigsaw guestbook and displayed it for the evening guests arrival which was a really nice touch.

There are probably other times that we've forgot to mention where the staff went above and beyond what would reasonably be expected and for that we will be forever grateful. The day was a resounding success and it's a day we'll never forget.

Where do we even start! We had our wedding at House for an Art Lover this February. We began planning mid last year, and from start to finish the whole process was seamless, so enjoyable and we felt confident throughout that it would be a beautiful day (which is certainly was.)

Bridget, our wedding co-ordinateur, was extremely attentive and unbelievably lovely. She was brilliant at every stage and any requests or questions were quickly solved. At no point did the planning process feel difficult thanks to Bridget and the rest of the team’s thorough work.

The day itself was seamless, with Bridget, Farooq and Amber all so attentive and thoughtful of us and our guests. Each aspect of the day flowed beautifully, and the meal was stunning. Many of our guests had dietary requirements which were handled smoothly and everyone raved about the food and service. All of the team in the kitchen and serving food & drink were absolutely brilliant. Every member of staff was friendly and patient.

The ceremony, drinks reception and meal were held on the first floor in three different, absolutely stunning rooms. We were moved between the three seamlessly and many guests told us it was the loveliest ceremony they had attended. The evening was held downstairs, with the venue fit with gorgeous fairy lights on the ceiling and a fab dancefloor. The entrance was beautifully dressed too.

We were checked on through the day to ensure we were comfortable, which was lovely and we felt so looked after. One of our parents who has medical needs was given a space to get away from the crowd and was also looked after brilliantly.

I cannot rave enough about how beautiful a day it was, and there is nothing that could have been improved or changed. We are so grateful to everyone at House for an Art Lover for a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and wish we could relive it. Thanks again to everyone, we are endlessly grateful.
