Scotland Street School Museum, a working school until the late 1970s, hosts regular fun family events. It offers a fascinating insight as to what school days were like in the reign of Queen Victoria, during World War II, and in the 1950s and 60s, in three reconstructed classrooms. Architecturally significant, the school was designed by Scotland's most famous architect, Charles Rennie Mackintosh. His designs for the school are on display. Refreshments can be taken in the Willow Cafe.

Well maintained museum attraction to interest adults and keep kids entertained so they aren't completely annoying

It's not rock and roll but it is interesting if you are into museums and learning about the old school days in Glasgow. Some interactive games for the kids

The museum held my interest for two main reasons. First, it is an excellent school museum in its own right, complete with recreations of classrooms, audio recordings of former pupils, and chronological displays. However this is also a seminal Mackintosh building, one which (due to falling out with his employers) didn't do his career any favours. There were a few... More

This is a fantastic experience. Really takes you back in time and brings back memories for us older folks. It was a good insight to schools in the old days for the young ones too. The Heidie tour was brilliant. Really captivated you, very knowledgeable, got you involved and explained brilliantly about the school and Macintosh. Very interactive and captivating.... More

Dropped into the school on way to Tramway and so glad we did. The architecture is beautifully simple. I liked being able to wander around. Great staff.

The free museum tells the story of 100 years of Scottish education . Wonderful leaded glass towers superb tiled hall and such interesting stories of those who worked towards it being built.

This building still retains all the Charles Rennie Mackintosh features and is well worth a visit for that alone. Although the museum is a bit spartan, several of the rooms have been laid out as in earlier times and there are photographic and video displays of schools and children in Scotland in previous times. From personal experience I can attest... More

I enjoyed seeing the physical environment of schools and how our cultural thinking around education has changed. Well designed displays with actual props and photos. And it is all within a Mackintosh designed building, so that adds to the experience.

This was a great place to take my Grandson (we went in December). A bygone look at the education system compared to how it is now was fascinating. My grandson loved the dressing up and learning how children were schooled in the 'old days'. A nice wee cuppa to heat us up was the perfect end to a great experience... More
