St Andrews West Sands Beach is a very beautiful beach, a great place for a relaxing long walk by the sea. I will definitely go there again when in St Andrews.

St Andrews West Sands Beach, is a really nice beach. It extends about two miles, making it a beautiful place for a walk. It is also not to far from the town centre.

Felt like we walked for miles on this beach it was stunning. We lucked out with the weather and it was very busy. So nice to see all the kids splashing about having fun. I am glad we walked there as hotel was close as the car parking looked grid locked to be expected on such a hot day.

Went yesterday took 1hour 10 mins to exit the car park.Traffic lights have been placed at the golf course which cause havoc upon exiting which no-one seems to man. 2 countryside trust vans passed the mile + long queue without trying to fix the problem, so avoid at all costs unless you have a few hours spare to sit in traffic.

Love this area and beach. If it’s not too busy you can park the car and sit in it looking out to see. Perhaps not as glamorous as the east sands but easier to sit looking out to sea.

Great beach overlooking the golf course, great to walk along beach goes for a few kilometres.

Suppose your experience can depend on the weather, was there in January and was fairly cold with icy winds.

Imagine during summer would be a fantastic atmosphere for all.

With almost 2 miles of sandy beach backed by protected dunes there’s plenty room for everyone and their dog. This beach is famous for having served as the opening scene for the film “Chariots Of Fire”, and has regularly won the coveted Blue Flag Award. During the summer months the R.N.L.I. serve as lifeguard patrol. The sands are overlooked by the world famous golf-course, and the views all around are very scenic. The only drawback is it can be pretty breezy with a bracing cool wind straight off the sea.

However many times you go back, the beach is absolutely stunning. Miles of golden sand with the backdrop for the old course. Dog walkers paradise with room to lose yourself.

We crossed a wooden bridge next to the "old course" at St. Andrews over the thick high fescue growing on the dunes to access the wide esplanade beach that served as the backdrop for the movie, Chariots of Fire.
