This is a fun visit if you time it right. It is great fun to watch the penguins or meerkats beng fed,to hold a snake or spider or to hear a talk by one of the enthusiastic staff. You will also enhance the visit considerably if you read about the animals and reptiles as you walk around. The animals all looked well cared... You are 100% correct; if you don't make any of the talks, feedings etc and you don't read the interpretation and really look at the animals and interact with them then your visit will be fast and poor value. BUT as you have found if you do take advantage of what we have to offer it's great fun and really... More

Great place to visit. Loads to see. Lots of information about all the creatures. Reptile handling if you are brave enough. I managed to hold a snake, but not a spider! Once you buy you ticket you can go in and out throughout the day which was great. Let's you see all the different feeding times.

Thank you for your kind words. Don't tell anyone but I don't like the spiders either :-) More

I brought a kid here who is the son of a famous local actor who lives between LA & New York. By all accounts, he has a much more exciting and busy life than many of us Scots who are just living our average lives. I thought he might find this boring as it's not full of drama and amazement... More

I'm glad you enjoyed yourself. Which goes to show that this is a fine young man who understands that life isn't all about drama and amazement. Animals have a universal appeal. You'd be surprised sometimes the "whatever" teenagers are the ones that really get it; especially if they think nobody is looking. It takes a hard heart to resist the... More

It was quite expensive and a little disappointing. No star fish. No crabs(unless they were hiding). 4 penguins and seals. You could see dozens in the sea just mocking their poor wee captured cousins. It also has meerkats! Meerkats! In an aquarium? They were cute though.

"4 penguins does not an aquarium make" I agree with you 100%; that's why we have 50% more than that! Joking aside you are correct 4 Humboldt Penguins would be a bad idea. It is generally accepted that 6 is pretty much as few as you can go for a stable group with good dynamics. So we most certainly would... More

Took the grandchildren there, it's quite small but with lots of content, suggest you go to the staff lectures as we thought they were very good. Used the cafe there has a simple light lunch menu which is fairly good and reasonably priced.

Thank you for your kind words and I'm glad you enjoyed yourselves. Yes please do all come to the talks and feedings. To me they are the best bit as you can get hands on with some of the animals and you will most definitely learn lots about them. In the case of the common seals you can also learn... More

A lot of people have commented on how small this aquarium is, but for a small establishment, they have done a wonderful job. Visitors simply need to take advantage of everything the aquarium offers rather than rushing through it and expecting the same experience as a huge zoo. First, they have organized the exhibits well and the small size allows... More

Thank you for your kind words. Yes, we agree 100% with what you are saying. Indeed at a sprint you can get in and out in 10 minutes BUT you won't see everything nor will you be able to attend any talks or feedings. To an extent you get out of the experience what you are prepared to put into... More

Was a bit expensive but if you break the day up, you get the more/most out of it. We all enjoyed it very much! Kids enjoyed meerkat feeding & penguin feeding! Also the reptile handling too. Not suitable for disabled/elderly lots of stairs.Their are a few benches to sit as you go round. Where the Nemo fish(clown)are its a great... More

Thank you for your kind words and I'm glad you all had fun; that's why we do this. Sadly, you are right. The aquarium was built directly into a cliff face in days gone by, when it was the town swimming pool. Back then disabled access wasn't even considered. But things are changing, last winter we refurbished a ramp from... More

Went to visit the aquarium whilst staying nearby with my two young children aged 5 and 8. Quite disappointed with our visit in that it was quite expensive for what there was. You could use your ticket all day if you needed to leave and come back but I'm not convinced there would be enough for you to see for... More

I'm sorry that you were disappointed with your visit. I'm surprised that the Children were bored; I suspect it's not everyday that they get the chance to hold Snakes and Lizards or see Seals and Penguins having their lunch. We do an all day ticket so that you can take advantage of all of these things and fit them in... More

I'm glad that you all enjoyed your trip. We know that our disabled access is improving, but we are all aware that it is far from perfect so we will always try to help in anyway we can-just ask. We will have a ramp to the second floor when the next lot of internal works are done; planning permission has... More

Visited today, 5 August, for my 9 year old son to enjoy his penguin feeding experience that was a surprise for him. Danny, the man supervising the experience was very good at putting my son at ease as he is quite shy. Unfortunately about 10 minutes into feeding the Penguins he was bitten badly on his upper inner leg causing... More
