I have been to two military tattoo festivals about 25 years apart. My experience is the festivals probably get better every year. It is an inspirational display of marching band precision which is worth the chilly weather conditions you will have to endure. As the saying...More

Even my finicky kids agreed that the Edinburgh Tattoo was amazing. The music, the pageantry, the experience of hearing bagpipes on the esplanade of Edinburgh Castle- This is quintessential Scotland (though not the Highlands- that is something different) Insiders tip? Queue early- Like very early....More

This is a must see annual event. I watched the program on TV on Britbox. I live in California. We both plan to see it in person one day.

This show will give you tingles down spine and an experience you won't forget. Tickets are overpriced but it won't disappoint. Downside it could be raining so take waterproofs and warm blanket to cosy up. Best venue in Scotland!

My family and I attended the Royal Military Tattoo this past August 13th, 2018. It was thrilling and it was the highlight of our visit to Edinburgh. I always read the negative reviews first and I just can't understand some people

We saw the 2018 Edinburgh Tattoo at Cineplex. While this is definitely a substitute for the real thing, we expected to be wowed just the same. That was not to be. I felt a stirring as the massed bands entered the stadium and I was...More

Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its
labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests
this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly
visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers
that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the
place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as
the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal
Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the
