Great place to have a family catch up
Lovely place to meet for a mixed family group. Lots to do. Coffee shop great with lots of choice, restaurant beautiful set up and food delicious (eggs benedict and Cullen skint), beautiful venue, nice surfaces to walk on with pram/stick, adventure playground great (but additional cost including the adults going in too), GoApe available, huge shop with lots to look at.
Hello, thank you for your review. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed your visit to The Park and Restoration Yard. We hope you visit us again soon.

    Thank you Go Ape Dalkeith
Absolutely blown away by Stewart and the whole team at Go Ape Dalkeith. The team could not have made myself and our Ukrainian guests more welcome. What lovely people. Helpful and accommodating to a fault. The adventure was fantastic. Our kids were able to forget for a short while the war that is ravaging their country and killing their fellow countrymen. THANK YOU ALL.
Hello Mary, thank you for your review. We are pleased to hear about the excellent experience you had at Go Ape and look forward to welcoming you back to The Park in the near future.

    A lovely day out
Went here on the weekend and had a lovely time. The children ran about the place and we were able to have a coffee. The children enjoyed it but I am knocking off a point as we had to pay as adults but there isnt much to do as an adult and I feel this would penalize smaller families or those visiting with the inlaws. Yes there are walks outside but that's outside so you are paying for the pleasure of looking after your children.
Hello Stuart, thank you for your review. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed your visit to Fort Douglas. In regards to paying for adults, all our play zones are designed for interactive play so everyone can join in the fun. We hope you visit us again soon.

    Good day out
Visited for the first time mainly for Fort douglas. The kids really enjoyed fort douglas, there was plenty for them to do and didn't want to leave at the end of the session. We had noticed the tunnel going under the bridge on the way in but as we were already running a bit behind we told them they could do it on the way out so we left just under 10mins before end of session to find they had closed it because it was "end of session". Our kids were very disappointed so we just brought them up to use it after the next session started since it hd been closed early. We visited the kitchen, it had a nice atmosphere and staff seemed friendly enough. Menu is a bit limited in my opinion but we all still found something we liked. I'd say downside is the cost of parking being £3 when the Fort and the restaurant isn't exactly cheap for a family, it would be good if parking could be free for those that are going to pay in other areas or at very least a bit cheaper.
Hello, thank you for your review. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed your visit to Fort Douglas and The Kitchen and are glad that your children managed to play in the wire tunnel following your lunch. We hope you visit us again soon.

    Definitely the real Santa!
We bought tickets to Santa’s grotto after hearing brilliant reviews and we weren’t disappointed! Santa was absolutely amazing. He was the nicest person and spent loads of time with our 2 kids. Our oldest is 9 and somewhat skeptical, but left convinced that he is the real Santa. It was such a magical experience and really made our kids Christmas (and ours!!). A wee tip I was given is that Santa asks the children if they have any questions. It’s worth them having a think about this before visiting so they don’t get stage fright and can’t think of anything! Our 2 both asked a question each which was answered brilliantly. Included in the ticket is access to Fort Douglas, so it’s really worth the money. Unfortunately it was pouring with rain on the day we saw Santa and so we couldn’t go, however we were told to email and explain and we would be able to go on another date that suited us. I did this and it ran like clockwork when we returned. We actually bumped into Santa outside his grotto when we did this, and he was kind enough to take the time to speak to the children and have a photo taken. Such a lovely, genuine person. Couldn’t recommend this experience enough and hope we are lucky enough to get tickets in 2024 to see the real Santa again!

Fireworks event. Utterly dreadful. Queuing for everything. Entertainment was hopeless. An absurdly shouty man on a microphone. A long cold wait for 20 minutes of fireworks. Badly organised muddy car park . Overpriced food and fairground rides. A family of Four now £100 worse off.

A miserable experience from start to finish

I wouldn’t go here again. Dropped in with a friend for coffee. Cafe didn’t seem too busy but waited 15 minutes for two lattes. Unclear why the wait. Then both lattes were lukewarm at best. Couldn’t be bothered to take them back, chalked it down to experience….

We used to visit here regularly with 2 of our grandchildren ( age 2 and 3). Because of price increases we haven’t visited since Autumn last year. We went today thinking that prices would be more attractive now that school holidays are over. I booked online and was appalled to see that it was still classed as peak time. I asked why at office and was told that it was still English school holidays and off peak wouldn’t start till 3rd September. Does that mean all English play parks increase their prices at start of Scottish school holidays? I don’t think so! If it was peak season why was kiosk in park itself closed? Was it because the owners know that the real peak season has passed as Scottish kids are back at school? There were 5 kids in the under 4 section ( 2 of which were my grandchildren). We paid £7.50 each for a 2 year old and a 3 year old and £4 each for 3 pensioners ( no concessions!!) and £6 to park 2 cars. Absolute rip off. This used to be a good place to go and we bought coffees and ice creams. Not today- we took our own. As for being interactive ( for adults and kids) - it is , if you count pushing toddlers on swings or roundabout or watching them on the bouncy pillow. It is absolutely ridiculous to charge adults who are there only to supervise young children. We will not be back until pricing structure is reviewed and the rip off stops.

The play park was fantastic, with a good range of equipment to suit all ages of children. It was well maintained, and had good access to clean toilet facilities.

Been taking my wee boy here for years but never got round to leaving a review.
The park is beautiful, covering a large area and with some lovely woodland and riverside areas.
Very nice coffees and cakes and the restoration yard area is lovely.
The Fort is brilliant, lots to do and in a lovely setting and in my opinion is excellent value ( and the Christmas light show is magical )
Add to this a great location ( 5 mins from the city bypass but quiet and secluded ) and lots of parking and you have a great family day out

So for £8.50 your kids get to play in a run-of-the-mill play park. The kind that is free everywhere else. On top of this, they close for an hour at lunch time so you can actually only get three hours in the park in the afternoon (from 2pm until 5pm). Adults must also pay for the privilege of standing about in a play park. The coffee houses there were closed. The rest of the park is excellent but Fort Douglas is a massive rip off.

Hello Jenny, many thanks for visiting however we are sorry to hear you did not enjoy your visit. Our adventure playground has been designed to give both children and their adults a fun experience with interactive play in mind as the equipment is suitable for all our visitors. We have to disagree with your comment that it is a ‘run of the mill’ playpark free at other places. Our playground is one of exceptional quality with continuous investment since opening, from the zip wires to Sky Maze and Mini Maze for toddlers, offering hours of entertainment. We have two sessions that visitors can book in on – an AM or PM slot which helps control numbers so everyone can have the space and enjoyment to play. We apologise that the food and drink cabin within the playground was not open on the day of your visit. Unfortunately this was down to circumstances out with our control at the time of your visit. However, The Larder and The Coffee Bar within Restoration Yard are always on hand in those circumstances to provide a variety of refreshments.
