The bus is perfect (very modern, very comfortable), the chauffeur-guide are really amazing (they are very, very knowledgeable and very nice to all of us), and the landscape is awesome (and does not matter that much if it rains, because it remains so authentic). One, two, three, all in!

We did this tour on january (14) with Andy C : a true born and bred Scot who knows the land. He was very funny, friendly and he made us feel comfortable and welcome with the small group we had. We had plenty of time to explore the monuments and did many stop to take pictures. The landscapes were stunning... More

Excellent trip would recommend to everyone. Danny our tour guide extraordinaire, was amazing with his knowledge of the local history and folklore. He told such a great yarn and had a fantastic sense of humour! Our arranged accommodation was brilliant and we will most definitely be back! Scotland is so very beautiful!

Despite being a 12 hour trip, which most people would feel is very long and has the potential to feel tedious... the day surprisingly and effortlessly went by quickly. Our tour guide, James, was not only knowledgeable and entertaining, but he was also helpful and courteous. He completely made the day. The bus was comfortable with plenty of viewing space... More

We had a small group for the 1 Day Highlands/Lochness Tour and shocking weather, but our guide James really made the day memorable. Yes it was great seeing the Highlands for the first time but i think James' personal touches, facts and music made the trip great, even in rain it was throughly enjoyable and i'd be keen to go... Heart of Scotland is run by lovely, warm, and genuine tour guides. This was my first trip to Scotland, and I was able to take two tours with HoS. The first I took by myself, and I appreciated the good balance of "exploring on my own" and "having guidance, context, and color added by the awesome tour guides"! It is... More

My girlfriend and I took the 3 day tour of the highlands and Isle of Skye leaving Edinburgh just after New Year. We were on a 10 day vacation with a little bit of time in London and Edinburgh, and we really wanted to find a no-hassle, adventurous opportunity that would largely take care of the pains of international travel... My husband and I loved the tour! Scott Macintosh, our guide, was absolutely perfect! He took us to all the scenic highland spots to see the sights and take pictures. He answered questions, gave tons of interesting facts and stories about the area, and even played some Scottish music! This was the best day of our trip and we loved... More

Staying in Broughton & Calton

Neighbourhood Profile
Broughton & Calton
Lying where grandiose New Town townhouses give way to malls and utilitarian housing, Broughton and Calton have long been transitional neighbourhoods with a mixed identity. It’s here that Edinburgh’s gay village found a home in the 1980s. But gay culture is anything but overt along bustling epicentre Broughton Street; even if polished pubs, hip bistros, smart delis and art galleries all speak of affluent good taste. The top of Leith Walk is more ragged. This major thoroughfare boasts a famously gritty gay club, as well as a strip of good Indian restaurants. Regal Georgian and Victorian townhouses preside over largely deserted streets in Calton, where only the occasional restaurant or hotel brings much life. Even so, a steady trickle of idlers and picnickers pass by to climb Calton Hill for its wide-open lawns, wonderful city views, and curious monuments – an Athenian-style temple among them.
