Avoid. The manger was rude and asked us to leave as we were a group! What made thing worse was that he then ran out in front of us and tried to get the adjoining bar also not to serve our group - how childish and petty! Fair play to the Cafe Royal next door they were most welcoming and... More

Visited this pub at lunchtime after finding it in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide. Wonderful Victorian architecture in the bar and upstairs. Good selection of well kept and unusual real ales. Staff were most knowledgeable about the beers. Didn't try any food but the available lunchtime menu looked interesting if not cheap.

Tucked away off Princes Street, the Guildford has a brilliant range of real ales, many rare to area, always in excellent condition. Staff great. Atmosphere great. Gets very busy on sports internationals days. Didn't notice food situation. Great pub.

6 of us came in and found a table at the back with 2 seats and 4 seats nearby stacked up. Started unstacking the seats so we could all sit down. Total Rottweiler of a girl started demanding we return the seats then she hid them in a cupboard. No reasons given why this was a problem. Another couple vacated... More

Wonderful bar, lovely décor, fantastic selection of real ales and whisky. Always a good atmosphere. One of my favourites in Edinburgh.

THE GUILDFORD is a nice bar tucked away up a side street about 2mins from Waverley station off Princess Street, a wonderful selection of real ales and very friendly staff , was probably the best pub we went in over our weekend in Edinburgh

Only a two minute walk from Edinburgh Waverley station and the ideal place to grab a beer on arrival in the city. There is a good selection of local ales and plenty of whiskies to choose from. The decor is a little special and reflects the importance that pubs had in the lives of the local population back in the... More

Great selection of craft beers and a beautiful space to enjoy them in. We unfortunately got there too late for food service, but enjoyed our drinks!

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
