Was dead for years but now officially the coffin is closed... So where to go now.... Abroad ;-). Nothing great for larger fellas and their friends.

Definitely tacky. Pleasant bar staff ruined by manager's attitude problem. Despite the sign outside, it does NOT serve food

This bar used to be a real haven on the gay scene, tastefully decorated and inviting. Now, for some bizarre reason it's had an interior overhaul leaving it incredibly stark, cheap, and tacky…sack the interior designer! Regrettably, one huge backward step.

Attended a event here. The staff were polite and enthusiastic even though rushed off their feet. The atmosphere was great. Down fall was it was roasting hot in there. Guess with so many people in the zircon struggled to keep up.. Price wise it was not overly expensive. Would and will go there again soon

Have been in and out of this bar over the years and seen it change ownership several times. To be honest its struggled to find its identity, at the moment its attracting an older gay clientele, but as other reviewers have pointed out the music seems to be aimed at the often miserable bar staff. I should add the door... More

Nothing great really!! The Vodka was weak just tasted like diet coke!! Staff not very enthusiastic!! No atmosphere and music I think it was more what the staff wanted to listen too not for the general clientele!! I think this could be a good bar but a smile on the staffs face would be a start!! This was not my... More

As per my title new town bar is wonderful and one of the best pubs anywhere... So relaxing and excellent fringe entertainment! Prices are steep and not sure whether they increase them for fringe in addition 50p a drink added on Sunday afternoons during festival all of which in addition to staff tips goes to charity as well as any... Stopped by this week to check out the new food menu - well-impressed!! Recommend the haggis balls - super tasty. Compliments to chef Lindsay - he's a star! Also super to see the NTB is a fully-fledged Fringe venue this year. Defo planning on hanging out and catching a few shows. Definitely one of my favourite places this on the... More

Staying in New Town

Neighbourhood Profile
New Town
Suits and shopping bags rule the streets of New Town, until after dark when strappy dresses come out to play. This is the city’s central business district with its smaller offices, clothes boutiques, and many of the city’s flashiest restaurants and ritziest clubs. The architecture along roads like George Street helps give it a swank and formal feel: it’s a planned Georgian development of regal townhouses, geometric squares, and self-important statues. But it’s also a very wanderable neighbourhood, with a healthy bustle at almost any time of day and fine people-watching in places like St Andrew's Square which fills with picnickers around lunch. You’ll also find a series of cheerful basement bistros on Hanover Street, while dark Rose Street has something of the feel of an undiscovered back alley and is chock-full of characterful pubs and small independent shops.
