Like many others, we have discovered that taking the hop on hop off tour is a great introduction to Edinburgh. The tour helps you to get oriented to the city and to decide which attractions you might want to visit. If possible sit upstairs because you will have a better view. We are likely to take the tour again on... More

Used Hop on Hop Off tour bus in Edinburgh, Sept 2016. Economic way to see the tourist spots in the city. We would simply hop off at the spots we wanted to see. If your want to use this as a way of planning. Pick your spots as you travel the whole route and th next day hop off and... More

This is a great tour. We used this service as part of the Royal Edinburgh Tour package which included the use of these busses, as well as visits to the Edinburgh Castle, the Holyrood, and the Royal Britannia. The bus had a tour guide who was quite funny and was incredibly knowledgable about the route. Very interesting!

I like going on Hop on Hop off Tours in every city I visit. They are such fun and an easy way to survey the city as well as the convenience of being able to get on and off at various stops. We each bought the 48 hour Majestic Tour pass which enabled us to use buses from all 3... More

At least 20 minutes of the promised tour was spent sitting at stops waiting for people to board and buy their tickets. This is how the hop on tours do this instead of having a guide at each stop to speed up the process. The tour is advertised as an hour long and only got 40 minutes. Recorded commentary was... More

My husband and I took this tour as soon as we arrived Edinburgh. We believe it's the best way to see the town and then make plans based on what we just saw on the bus tour. I recommend always taking the bus tour first off when arriving to your destination. They're usually hop on hop off so you can... More

The open top bus tours are fantastic value for money. The guides who provide a commentary along the way are entertaining and informative and you get to learn lots of interesting facts about the city. The tours run 2-3 times every hour and last for approx. 60mins for the whole circuit. It's easy to hop off the bus to explore... More

Phoned the office for advice before travelling and bought the seniors 48r ticket covering the 3 buses for £20 each. Over the 3 days of our visit travelled all three bus circuits , starting late on first morning meant tickets available on 3rd day til noon.It is 48hrs from your start, not 2 days. All drivers and guides very helpful.... More

Staying in Princes Street and Gardens

Neighbourhood Profile
Princes Street and Gardens
Glaswegians tease Edinburghers that their High Street is only half one, since buildings only line one side. But what they don’t say is how extraordinary the views are from Princes Street as a result. From here you look onto expansive and decorative public gardens beneath the mighty basalt cliffs on which Edinburgh’s Castle stands proud above the rest of the dramatic old town skyline. Yet many of those on Princes Street look the other way, as they’re concerned with chain store shopping or catching the tram or a train at main train station Waverley. But it’s not all utility here; the Scottish National Gallery rewards purposeless wandering, and December’s huge winter market in the gardens begins a season of revelry which ends with Hogmanay, Britain’s largest New Year’s street party.
