Decent food after a long day of site seeing

Just avoid at all cost - this place draws you because of the Al Fresco element however check out all the things on the menu they don't have including Scottish ales & coffee. Advice - walk on a few steps to any of the other establishments in the square!

This place is good for decent pub food- newer pub than the ones just a few doors down. I enjoyed the steak and kidney pie but the veggies in the side were a bit limp - obviously previously frozen but the price was decent about 8 quid so there you have it. Quite small.

Lovely afternoon spent with a couple of beers people watching on Grassmarket. Just try not to need the toilet, because they're a horror show.

I only give this dive a 1 because that's the minimum I can give. The staff were sullen and unhelpful, the drink watered down and the food was awful. My girlfriend and I ordered drink, a starter and a main each. The beer tasted watered down and the diet 'coke' was obviously some cheaper brand. The starters were meager and... More

We popped in as we were starving. Atmosphere was lovely, particularly liked the chairs. Service was fast and the food was nice and reasonably priced. Was slightly off out however as the manager appeared to be arguing with someone over the phone behind the counter. Other than this we enjoyed our food and drinks and would more than likely return.

had a so called Sunday roast which was a frozen Yorkshire pud with chicken and frozen veg in for £9.95 Complete rip off. Just a microwave meal which you could get for a couple quid. Never again!!!!

We visited Maggy Dicksons last week for a drink and a bite to eat. Everything was perfect the staff were polite and professional and the food was very tasty. This pub is a real hidden gem in Edinburgh old town. I would highly recommend visiting Maggy Dicksons if your looking for a high end drinking / dining experience in the... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
