A very small chapel within the castle grounds... in all honesty there isn't much to see and it is crowded all the time, as everybody seems curious to get in. The windows aren't special, there really isn't anything special here...

This is the oldest building within the castle and it is built on the high-point of the hilltop. It is a plain and ordinary 10x5 m room with an alter table covered by an ornately embroidered cloth. A stitched kneeling rug is spread on the...More

Wonderful little chapel steeped in history it is a must see whilst at the castle even if you visit when castle is busy. Whilst there if you lean over the wall by the chapel you will see the little pet cemetery too.

St. Margaret, Queen of Scotland, is my 24th Great-Grandmother. Our visit had meaning. Built by her youngest son, David I (1124-53), on the highest point of castle rock, it has survived twenty-six recorded sieges and is held as the only structure not destroyed over the...More

A small chapel at the top of the castle. A place where royalty worshipped. Very small but worth a look. Views from the chapel are some of the best in Edinburg.

The Chapel is described as the oldest surviving building in Edinburgh and was built by David I. It is very small but has been well restored and has some wonderful stained glassed windows.

It was great to see this diminutive place of prayer in the extensive Castle campus. Its longevity and endurance are most impressive, having been founded in the first half of the 12th century. The stone craft is admirable. Inside is lovely. The arch of the...More

Since my first name is Margaret, I was interested in finding out who this never-heard-of saint was. The sign in front of the chapel gave a little description. This supposedly oldest surviving building in the city is rather small. The chapel would hold a maximum...More

Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its
labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests
this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly
visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers
that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the
place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as
the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal
Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the
