    Way better than expected
So we wanted to walk around the Leith area, and I thought we'd walk by The Britannia and just see it from the outside. We get down there, and it turns out that there is really no way to see the Yacht without buying tickets. It's kind of a weird setup. The Yacht is accessible only by going through a large mall building. I think the concept was they wanted to draw business to the mall, but the mall is kind of dead, so it's weird. Anyway, just go with me here. You go to the sort of deserted mall, go to the second level, buy tickets for the Yacht, and after that, everything is great. Like I said, I wasn't that interested in the Yacht, but once we went on it, it was actually great. The Yacht is fascinating, and you get to walk around pretty much every part of it. You can see the bedrooms and dining rooms. The history is awesome. The ship is beautiful. You can even have tea and some light food at a restaurant, which is nice. The view from the Yacht is also great. To sum up, I wasn't that interested in seeing the Britannia, but once we got there, it was way more interesting than I expected. I 100% recommend it. The mall part is weird, but just go with it.
How fantastic to learn that your visit to The Royal Yacht Britannia exceeded your expectations. For the information of others, the entrance to Britannia is through our Visitor Centre, which is located on the second floor of Ocean Terminal Shopping Centre and has enabled us to become a highly accessible attraction. Visitors can indeed explore the many areas of the Yacht, from the State Apartments, the Crew’s Quarters and Engine Room to the Bridge. Thank you for recommending a visit to the Yacht to those in Edinburgh and for rating your visit five stars.

    A bit of luxury
Attended with my sister. We both really enjoyed it. My sister walks with a stick. Staff saw this and automatically offered her a handset that could go round her neck that was very helpful and freed up her hands when needed. The audio tour was also very good. Very informative. We also had a champagne afternoon tea. This was lovely and the staff were very helpful. If you are in Edinburgh, this is definitely worth a visit. Travelling there is very easy on the tram.
How lovely to read that you and your sister both enjoyed touring The Royal Yacht Britannia. For the information of others, the tour of Britannia is highly accessible. Our friendly team of Visitor Assistants are always on hand and happy to assist visitors during their visit. A Champagne cream tea in our Royal Deck Tearoom is a great addition to any tour! It is kind of you to mention that Ocean Terminal, where Britannia is berthed, is easily reached by tram from Edinburgh’s city centre. Thank you for rating your tour five stars.

    Wonderful exhibit
One of the best events on our trip to Scotland. The exhibit is wonderfully laid out and a complementary audio tour really helps to take you back in time. A 100% must visit in Edinburg. Afternoon tea on board is the “ icing on the cake “
How lovely to read that The Royal Yacht Britannia was a highlight of your trip to Scotland. We agree, a visit to the Royal Deck Tearoom to enjoy our tasty food and drinks selection is a fantastic addition to a day aboard Britannia.

A Great Glimpse into the Royal Family!
Amazing tour on the Royal Yacht. We did the audio guide & it was very thorough & we felt that they covered lots of fun & interesting details of the Royal Family on Britannia. We also did afternoon tea, which was delicious!
Visitors do indeed gain an insight into life at sea for the Royal Family and crew of Royal Yachtsmen as they explore The Royal Yacht Britannia. We are delighted that you visited the Royal Deck Tearoom, it is the perfect place to re-energize during your visit. Thank you for rating Britannia five stars.

Great way to spend a couple of hours
We had a couple of hours to waste before our flight home so decided to visit the RYB. We went in the first slot of the day and almost had the place to ourselves for a while, the tour was well organised and I enjoyed the audio commentary. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful and we had a lovely stop for tea and cake at the tea room ☕️🍰. Certainly worth a visit.
It is great to read that you had a well organised tour across all five decks. Our team of friendly and helpful Visitor Assistants do aim to provide every visitor with an enjoyable visit. We are delighted that you found your visit worthwhile.

Walking in the footsteps of Royalty.
Booked this at the last minute before my trip to Scotland and I'm glad I did. The yacht was amazing and to sit in the tea room having a tea and lemon drizzle cake with incredible. It's better to book before you go and you can either use your cell phone or use one of their devices to listen to the audio tour. Some areas are tighter than most so be aware of that. Prices in the tea room are reasonable. Great information before and during the tour along with fantastic opportunities for memorable photos to take. The tour takes about 2 hours depending on how fast or slow you are. The gift shop has lots of items for sale at decent prices and there's something for everybody.
It is fantastic to read that you enjoyed walking in the footsteps of Royalty aboard The Royal Yacht Britannia. Indeed, the lemon drizzle cake in our stunning Royal Deck Tearoom is incredible. We are pleased you think so. As you mentioned, the tour of Britannia is at your own pace and visitors can use their mobile phones to listen to our audio tour commentary or listen through one of our free handheld devices. There are plenty of photo opportunities on board and visitors are most welcome to take photographs throughout their tour. Thank you for rating your tour five stars.

    All Aboard!
If you're been following all the documentaries on Netflix on the Royals, how can you not visit the Royal Yacht Britannia? The RYB is an at-your-own-pace type of tour. They give you a handheld device that resembles a phone and as you move from room to room on the yacht, there are numbers to follow that gives you a narration. It was all very interesting to see how the "other side" lives. It's impressive at how large the ship is and once upon a time used to carry a car just for the Queen! The tour was about 2+ hours depending on if you needed to circle back to a room due to a crowd gathering. I'm glad I went to check it out, but I won't be revisiting anytime soon.
Thank you for visiting The Royal Yacht Britannia. Indeed, visitors can discover the Yacht’s 44 years of history at their own pace with our interesting and informative audio guide, which is included in the ticket price. It is kind of you to let other visitors know to allow one and a half to two hours to tour Britannia, allowing extra time to visit the Royal Deck Tearoom and Gift Shop.

    Something for everyone 👍
Well worth a visit. It was fascinating to learn about life onboard the ship for the officers and crew. And great to see the quite modest Royal quarters. The cafe offered a lovely selection of food (not cheap but delicious and very well presented) and the staff were all very friendly. Make sure you spot the corgis - we made it 12…
By stepping aboard The Royal Yacht Britannia, visitors do gain an insight into what it was like for the Royal Family and crew of Royal Yachtsmen to travel the globe by sea. Indeed, the Royal Deck Tearoom does have a selection of delicious scones, cakes, and sandwiches, all served by our friendly Waiting team. Thank you for your five-star review.

    A hull of a boat!
Stunning interiors and a great detailed complementary audio guide, as was expected of this class yacht. I enjoyed the stories of the bear on the ceiling fan and was quite taken by the sheer size of the dining hall. It is educational to see the collection of ceremonial gifts from their journeys. There wasn't much of a queue when I went to the booking counter. I got a 10% discount as I had a hop-on hop-off pass as well. It took me about 1.5 - 2 hours (entry ~3 pm) to explore all levels. The engineer in me took longer in the lower decks. To me, that's where the muscle is :)) The Corgi treasure hunt kept me on the lookout. I enjoyed the search for the competition. All in all, Thank you for opening up this experience to the public.
Thank you for visiting The Royal Yacht Britannia. It is a delight to read about your experience. The simple yet elegant furnishings that visitors see on Britannia were chosen by Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip to create the feeling of a country home at sea. We do suggest visitors allow one and a half to two hours to tour Britannia with additional time should you wish to visit the Royal Deck Tearoom and Gift Shop.

Went with my dad who has limited mobility. All of the staff without exception were super with him, very friendly and welcoming but also very patient. We were offered the use of a wheelchair whilst we toured the yacht and it was so easy to get round the yacht in a wheelchair - one of the best places to cater with disabled that I have been to
It was fascinating to see how the Queen used to travel as well as all the staff with her. And was different to just going round a stately home. The audio guide was also a great idea as meant my dad could listen to everything, whereas when its all written down, he struggles to read everything
There was also a fun "find the corgi" trail for children
The tea room is pricey, but then how often can you say you've had tea and scones where the Queen has also dined!
If you're in Edinburgh can only recommend you visit - especially on a February day!

What a lovely review! We are pleased to learn that you enjoyed exploring Britannia’s five decks and learning about life on board for the Royal Family and dedicated crew. As you mention, the Royal Yacht is a highly accessible visitor attraction with lifts and ramps between each of the decks and an accessible tour route, for wheelchairs of up to 67cm width. Indeed, the tour is self-guided using our complimentary audio handset, allowing visitors to explore Britannia at their own leisure, whilst learning about the Royal Yacht’s unique history. We are pleased to learn that our cuddly corgi treasure hunt proved to be such a hit – we hope you managed to spot them all! A visit to our Royal Deck Tea Room is certainly a perfect way to complete your tour and take in the stunning waterfront views. Thank you for visiting and for your kind review.

An absolute highlight of our visit to Edinburgh was taking a bus to Leith to visit the Royal Yacht Britannia! What a stunning place to visit, the whole tour is perfect with excellent commentary. Allow at least 2-3 hours hours to get the most out of your visit as there is so much history to absorb and it would be a shame to rush through. The views are absolutely stunning from the decks. We would also recommend afternoon tea in the restaurant either during or once you have finished, service is friendly and welcoming whilst being professional. We would definitely visit again, as this is a wonderful place to visit. Highly recommended.

We pre-booked a ticket for myself and my wife (who works for the NHS) purchased a discounted ticket at the desk .
The tour starts by going through the museum and onto the top deck . You can get an audio handset or download it onto your phone.
It was fascinating and informative , seeing all aspects of life on board from the crew to the royal Family. We absolutely loved it

Also liked the Royal Tea rooms where we had Scones and Tea - delscious . We would thoroughly recommend if you are in Edinburgh , buses go to the ocean Terminal for the tour.

Thank you for visiting The Royal Yacht Britannia and for providing such a great review. As you say, our audio guides give a wonderful insight into what life was like on board for the Royal Family and those who served on board as Royal Yachtsmen. Very well organised and maintained tourist attraction. All staff were very friendly and helpful. Nice touch of humour with comical placement of toy corgis in most rooms (especially the sick bay). Included in admission price were handsets with very informative audio guide which was very good and top marks for having Welsh as an option. Very interesting and informative visit with plenty to see. We were lucky that it was quiet so could wander without crowds . Not suitable in bad weather as decks are obviously open . Spent couple of hours easily. Finished trip with lovely lunch of sandwiches and soup or sandwiches and scones. Very pleasant and enjoyable.

The yacht itself was beautiful, the rooms were lovely and stunning to see. Upon entry you have a walkthrough and see photos and printed information on the walls. At the end of this, you are advised that you will be given what looks like a phone to listen to the information provided in different languages and there are signs posted advising which number you need to press to listen to the relevant information.
About half way through the walk through of the yacht, there are signs for the Tea Rooms and there is a short wait depending on the time of day on your visit. The menu is not large but is very nice and I highly recommend the potato wedges. It isn't cheap as we had soup/sandwich, cake and a drink and it worked out about £35 for 2 people.

The downside of this was that I am hard of hearing and could not listen to the information provided on the 'telephones'. I asked if there were sign posted information inside the yacht or any other type of information available and was told no. It would have been helpful if I could have been given a leaflet to read about each area so that I could fully enjoy the visit as I felt I was missing out on information given to other tourists...

Thank you for visiting The Royal Yacht Britannia. We are pleased that you found Britannia stunning to see. As you kindly mention, our complimentary audio guided tour allows you to explore Britannia’s five decks at your own pace. The tour can be listened to on our audio handset which works with the T-loop system, or personal mobile phone, on both of which the volume can be controlled. The self-led tour allows you to learn about life on board, whilst taking in as much or as little of the tour as you wish. We do apologise that you were not offered another version as we do have a printed version of the script, as well as tablets available with the Britannia tour in British and American Sign Language. We will of course pass your feedback regarding the audio tour onto our Visitor Experience Manager, as we are always keen to make improvements where possible. We hope to welcome you back aboard to fully experience all five decks with your free Annual Pass. For the information of others, admission to Britannia is less than other top Edinburgh attractions and includes an Annual Pass, which allows each visitor to return free of charge, for up to a year. Britannia has been named as the UK’s Best Visitor Attraction 2020 by Which? Magazine, and has retained its Tripadvisor Traveller’s Choice Best of the Best Award for the 9th consecutive year, making us one of the Top 1% in the World.

We really enjoyed this. To be honest, I wasn’t that bothered about going but it turned out to be one of my favourite things in Edinburgh. It is an easy bus ride from the city centre, with buses running very frequently back and forth. It was really interesting and you get to see lots of the rooms. The audio tour was great, one of the best audio tours that I’ve done. The tour is a set one way route, which means that you don’t miss anything. Would recommend a trip to the tea room as well. It’s really good and reasonably priced. We got to the tea room about midday and it was already busy. The queue shortly after that was quite long, I imagine in summer there would be quite a wait for a table so it could be wise to plan for before or after that peak lunch period. The souvenir shop is really overpriced, which is a shame really because it means people are less likely to buy. But that certainly doesn’t detract from the attraction itself.

If the weather is chilly (as it was in February) this is a really good way to fill 2 or 3 hours and stay relatively warm.

Well presented audio tour and some fascinating artifacts to see. The yacht is in great shape and it’s easy to get an impression of how it functioned.

Even better is the insight it provides into the lives of the royals whilst they were on board.

The tea room on the top deck is well worth a visit - a little pricey but great service and tasty too.

I wasn't sure about going here, but I went anyway and thoroughly enjoyed it.
It was great to see this ship, a piece of Royal history, preserved like this. The audio tour was full of interesting facts and guided you round the yacht at your own pace.
I loved hearing about the running of the yacht and about all the people who worked on board and their jobs. The living accommodation was also very interesting.
We had a cuppa in the cafe but didn't eat there.
I thought it was worth the money (£17.50) and would highly recommend as something to do when visiting Edinburgh.

This is a great place to visit any day but especially on a wet, windy day as, if you park in the Blue Car Park (level E), you are indoors for the vast majority of the time.
Brittania is thoughtfully and sympathetically presented and you can do the tour at your leisure using a smart phone or a cleaned and sanitised individual handset. Parking and the use of the handset are both free.
The staff are cheery, welcoming and very helpful. Great efforts were made to keep the floors in the lift tower dry and safe.
The royal yacht is beautiful and I can understand Her Majesty's great affection for her. I still haven't forgiven Tony Blair for her decommissioning!

A worth visit! Very interesting and informative. You really get an impression of how the life was back then on the Britannia, when it was still active.
I would definitely recommend to book the audioguide tour around the museum and inside the ship, since you get a lot of extra information.
Important: In the days of Covid-19, you should wear a mask, since it is not always possible to maintain social distancing. Also you have to book a time slot and buy the ticket in advance.
A must see for everyone visiting Edinburgh!
