Wanted to do this with a friend visiting Edinburgh, so bought a voucher on Groupon. While trying to book this company first of all just sent generic responses to my emails (without reading them) and then were outright RUDE and unhelpful! In the end I had to go through Groupon to get a refund Avoid at all costs, there are... More

In general, both the tour were very good and covered all the main attractions and highlights of Edinburgh or the the castle. Definitely worth trying for anyone who would love to learn abt the city's history, local tales and remarkable persons like Robert the Bruce and the spider 😀 to be more specific: Last week, I first join Sabela's free... Fantastic walking tour which is interesting and gives tonnes of information about Edinburgh. Our tour guide made our tour and our trip! I can't remember he's name now but he's from Aberdeen!! He was so enthusiastic about showing us around and his knowledge about the history of Edinburgh is amazing! He's a credit to the tour company. I would recommend... More

We just finished our walking tour of Edinburgh with ginger Greg and loved it so much that we'll be going on his tour tonight of the Dark Side. One of the best story telling guides we've ever had...it doesn't hurt that he his a wicked sense of humour and a Scottish accent! Thanks Greg!!

The tour lasted for about 2 and a half hour. Led by experienced and funny tour guide who will tell you interesting stories while visiting different famous places and hidden alleys in Edinburgh.

We went for the free tour because a friend recommends it to us. By the middle of the tour we had booked the dark side tour and the castle tour. Our children enjoyed all the tours a lot. It was funny and informative. Go Pacual Clan!!

We booked the Dark side tour through Groupon, have never done a tour before even though I live locally. Greg was lively and very entertaining. We learned lots of tales and a wee bit off history too!! Would definitely recommend and will be looking to do other tours with these guys; it was fun and not just boring history details,... More

Being our first visit to Edinburgh, my husband and I decided to do the free walking tour (along with our 9 month old son) as an introduction to the city and it's incredible history. We were lucky enough to have Paula as a guide who was both hilarious and very informative - she is a great storyteller and really brings... More

I did all three tours in one day (because I only had about 48 hours in Edinburgh) and I did not regret it at all! For the Free Tour and Castle Tour, I had Jen as a tour guide and for the Dark Side tour I had Greg. They were both very entertaining and knowledgeable!! I had a great day... More

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Few Edinburghers live in the Old Town, but its labyrinth of dank alleys and steep streets suggests this was not always the case. Today, it’s mostly visitors, tartan-flavoured souvenir shops, and pipers that you’ll find on its cobbled streets. This is the place to get a feel for Auld Reekie (Old Smelly), as the town was once nicknamed, and stroll the Royal Mile, the thoroughfare that links the castle with the royal palace – two of Edinburgh’s great set-piece attractions. But there’s lots more exploring to do here down dozens of little alleys, or wynds, while at night the city’s busiest clubs erupt along the Cowgate which is closed to traffic for this purpose.
