Normally this is a fabulous day out but areas are now closed off due to extensive renovation. You can still go a walk along the river and up and round the pastures where some of the animals are now housed. The visitors centre and cafe are closed but toilets can be accessed during normal working hours. Not sure what plans... More

Thanks very much for your positive review. You are quite correct, the works for the Park are now in full swing so access can be restricted. However, there are diversionary routes in place for the footpaths, so please do follow the signage - you might even see part of the park you're never seen before. The Palace remains open 10am-4pm... Amazing to have such a lovely forest of my doorstep. Has lovely long walks, shorter ones, a muddy park for the kids, animals and a large grass play area. Not forgetting a wee cafe for an ice lolly on a hot day or a coffee if you want to pay a bit extra for one. Great wee day out if... More

You have to look hard to find a better place to take the kids on a sunny day. Picnic packed, bring a ball (and your sun cream!) and have a good and free family day out with anything you could want whether your children like animals or nature or running about or learning about history before you know it the... We visited here from Toronto. Could not say a single bad thing about this place, the scenery was breath taking, the staff was extremely kind to us. We got our own little tour of everything, and stayed behind just to talk to the staff and other people we had met there. So much kindness shown to us, we will definitely... More

I'm so pleased to hear that you enjoyed your visit to the Castle and Country Park. I agree, the Castle and its collections are a 'must see' and our staff do work hard to make sure that they know their stuff. The exhibition in the Palace changes every year so there is always something new to enjoy. Our refurbished Visitor... More

Revisited Dean Castle Country Park after a disappointing visit in April only to find this time its more or less closed for a multi million pound facelift. We did however visit the castle which seemed to be the only thing open. Last time we were here, we were rudely shouted at by a member of staff (See previous review),this time... More

I'm sorry to hear that your visit to Dean Castle Country Park did not meet your expectations. You are quite right, many of our facilities are closed for much needed upgrades. The castle has also just been granted several million pounds for restoration and new displays, but the Palace and exhibition will remain open to the public for the foreseeable... More

A great place for a walk, with or without dog, and a breath of fresh air. Although close to the centre of Kilmarnock, its peaceful and offers a great variety of pathways through the woods and alongside the river. There is a small urban farm area with a variety of animals plus a tea room in the Castle area. There... More

The park is beautiful. We loved the deer. The castle has a special history to us since it has the Boyd history. We have been the last three and have not been able to go in the keep because of the unsafe conditions. There is a plan to restore the buildings, but funding is not in place yet.

A lovely, well maintained park suitable for walkers, children, buggies and pooches. There are a good few different paths and trails to follow as well as open grassland for play and picnics. Swings and a small animal farm are a draw for the kids and the old house often hosts craft fairs. Plenty of car parking away from the main... More
