There is an extra charge for the Camera Obscura but admission to the museum is free and well worth a visit. We took our two young grandchildren (aged 2 and 4) and they had a great time, looking at the many different exhibits - stuffed animals, ancient tools and machinery, clothes that people used to wear, grandfather clocks etc.etc. There... An interesting museum with different themes as you walk around. There are exhibitions on Archaeology with a lot of items from long ago and you can see fossil footprints and various types of stones, and stuffed birds and animals. There are also different textile items to look at, including information about spinning, weaving and knitting and a Local History section... More

I've given this museum five stars for the camera obscura alone. The museum itself is worth exploring, and when we went there were school groups there - it was great to see it being visited. The camera obscura is outstanding. It was one thing to read about the history of Dumfries and another to see it reflected right there, live,... More

This is a great place to spend some time in. It was so versatile in all that they had on display. It would suit most of the family.

Great views from the top in any weather conditions. Difficult to park too close but spaces found around.

The a camera obscura was amazing. You reach it via a steep winding staircase. The friendly and informative guide explains how it works - the detail that can be seen of the town below is amazing. There is too much to see in the rest of the museum for one visit. There is a wide variety of interesting subjects on... More

We visited on a cold winters day and after wandering round looking at the history and artefacts we enjoyed an ice cream. The curator even allowed us to sit and watch a virtual tour of Robert Burns house.

This museum is excellent as it covers a great deal of local history, nature and industry. There are great views of the surrounding area. It has a camera obscura which is amazing and has to be seen to be believed.

Awful place nothing much happening, go somewhere else. Cant say anything else about it except that it is in a place where alcoholics like to hang out called the mill green. Avoid that park too, go to the dock p[ark
