A great place to getaway from the hustle. A secret little gem to sample as you get into Scotland. There are lots of places to pull over and look at the scenery. I was very surprised with this area as I thought the Highlands would take some beating.

Located in the wonderful Galloway forest, the Raiders Road takes you through the little travelled, little disturbed, masterpiece of nature. It is beautiful and there's little more I can add to that. Go exploring - safely. You'll be amazed.

We spent almost a whole day in the forest ,set up our chairs and picnic at the Otter pool and just watched the children have fun in the water, a number of pleasant short walks can be found easily and toilet facilities are available. suitable for all ages and well worth a visit.

Spent a recent day relaxing along this forest drive. It was a hot day and children (and some parents) were having a great time in the Otter Pool with their inflatables. There is some scenery to be viewed along the way but this is a working forest and some areas have been cleared. Toilet facilities at Otter Pool and other... More

Spent a glorious afternoon at the otter pools yesterday. Armed with picnic and deckchairs we just sat and watched the fun as children enjoyed the last day of the school holidays. The sun sparkled on the little waterfalls as kids afloat all manner of inflatables experienced all the thrills of white water rafting without the danger. I have read some... More

Beautiful drive, slightly 'off road' through the Clatteringshaws forest with stopping points and places of interest to explore on foot, especially the otter pool area. Scenic easy paced drive, beautiful...

The Galloway Forest Drive was so disappointing. I expected stunning views with places to pull over and stop to admire the scenery. What we actually got was a stressful drive along a road that wasn't fit for purpose with tons of dust and probably dozens of stone chips to the car. There were few places to let other vehicles pass,... More

We went on a nice sunny afternoon last month hoping to see a few Otters (if lucky!) and also some beautiful sprawling landscapes. Mostly what we saw was a lot of mess left behind by the logging and not much else. In fact we had much better views on the way to the Raiders Road itself. The Otter Pool site... More

The main issue is the impact of the larch fungus and resultant logging leaving the area a mess and with wide felled areas to look at. Add to this, some of the road is being repaired and very pot holed in places now. I would still make the journey again to visit the Otter Pools site (go from Clateringshaws end)... More

off the beaten track on a forest drive, this forest road goes up and down hills along side a Loch and the river Dee. Stunning scenery and a tranquil setting for a relaxing drive or picnic in the country. Lots of places to stop and get out for pictures or a walk.
